I agree that things have changed a bit, but some things haven't changed, they've only come out to the surface. I do think that's a big part of it. It's way easier to get busted!!

No one believes that she's literally "a whore"; it's the exaggeration that makes it funny ("Let's face it - Miley Cyrus seems inappropriately sexual for a 15-year-old. I do hope that she gets a virus down there so that Lindsay stays away" just wouldn't cut it). I have zero problem with it. Goin' to see Kathy in ten days! I'm seeing her in October! And, exactly. Someone ordered tickets for my birthday in October but the auditorium was flooded and there's still no response on whether the show will go on. That would have been the perfect birthday present. On a related note, I was over at my sister's house when The Grammys were on. My 11-year-old and 13-year-old nieces were watching. There was some reference to Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" and the following took place:
11-YEAR-OLD: I heard that Miley Cyrus went to rehab. 13-YEAR-OLD: You should go to rehab. 11-YEAR-OLD [RUNNING OUT OF THE ROOM]: MOM!!!

I think those stories are blown way out of proportion, and they end up on the news instead of just being rumors that we heard about. And I heard some shocking ones when I was a teen 20 years ago. Kathy Griffin is a piece of shit. I'm glad she got fired off "Hannah Montana". Still funny. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

I'm not offended by it, but I don't think it's funny. I just think it's too obvious an attempt at being funny by punctuating a line with something shocking. She's not digging very deep for the jokes. Yes, for some it's shocking and inappropriate. All of that can be funny in the right context (see George Carlin, Whoopi Goldberg, Roseanne Barr, Sam Kinison, etc.), but this just feels like a failed attempt at shock humor.
Doesn't work for me, nor does much of her humor anymore.

RodeoSchro said: No, what gets me mad is making fun of kids. It's the same reason that if I ever get to meet Michael Savage, I'm going to punch his lights out for what he said about autistic children.
If Kathy Griffin was a man, I'd knock her teeth out. But I don't hit women, so her dentist doesn't have to worry about me breaking his work. I'm willing to bet that those who have kids support me on this thread, and those that don't have kids don't get it. I don't have kids and have no problem with Kathy saying whatever the fuck she wants to a room full of people who bought tickets to see her. I'm more inclined to think that Billy Ray is the big fucking jerk in this scenario who whored out his daughter to make a buck when his career was dead. There are far worse crimes against children than calling a TV star a whore. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I used to find her mildly amusing, but after her show I think she is the most shallow phony self centered "celebrity" out there, highlighted by the fact that she makes fun of these qualities in others.

Kathy Griffin is a sycophant who now in her career only exists to make fun of famous and wealthy people. On the surface she seems to be a sad and shallow human being with self esteem issues on par with the perez hilton crowd. What Kathy Griffin wouldn't do to be famous would be a really short list.

ya know what, even though calling a 15 year old is a cheap shot, i'm sorry...miley cyrus and her family need to take some responsibility too. the fact is, she's a public figure. as a public figure, she gets lots of money, lots of adoration, lots of privileges and resources that we "mere mortals" will probably never enjoy in our lives. this kind of fortune comes with a price tag. you are scrutinized, judged, made fun of, critiqued, insulted, parodied, caricatured, deconstructed and everything else by the media and the general public. so HOW THE HELL is it okay for this girl to go around taking racy cellphone pics of herself? doesn't she have the sense to know that it's gonna end up on perez hilton within a week? haven't her parents drummed into her head that she can't lead a normal life because she IS a public figure, and even though taking pics like that wouldn't be okay in a private person's life, it's 100 times as not-okay for a young public figure who's supposed to be a role model for little girls??? meanwhile, miley is making all these christian statements and talking about how she's saving herself for marriage. if that's the image she wants the world to have of her, she needs to knock it off with the wet t-shirt shower pics, simple as that. kathy griffin should be the least of her problems.

I wonder if it was a total coincidence that Kathy appeared in the "Real Slim Shady" video? An excerpt from the lyrics of the song:
I'm only givin' you things you joke about with your friends inside your living room
The only difference is I got the balls to say it in front of y'all And I don't gotta be false or sugarcoat it at all
