i think the name change was a sub-part of the custody battle. looks like the judge just did the child a favor along the way.

and the child could not have just used a nickname, for the simple reason that any time she was required to be identified by her full name, liike school registration, etc. she would have to disclose that whole lame thing.

i do understand where you are coming from, but seeing as how the child herself hates the name, what happened is good imo.

I think you're inferring/assuming a whole lot here. Just because she was involved in a custody battle (and that could be an exaggeration) does not mean that any real abuse was involved. To me, the judge just didn't like her name and wanted to change it. Even if her school registration was in the full name what's so damn difficult about calling her "Talula" if she's so embarrassed. That's not that unusual of a name and is much more attractive IMO than Dweezil and Moon Unit Zappa. I went by a nickname all throughout school, and MOST people didn't know my real name. I think for a judge to make such a subjective decision when no real abuse is going on is kinda overstepping his bounds.

Ordinarily you wouldn't want a judge just arbitrarily making these sorts of decisions, but I gotta believe it was driven more by the child's embarrassment of her name than anything else.

I think if a parent wouldn't want to go through life with the particular "unique" or "creative" name being considered, the child shouldn't be saddled with it either.

I hope the parents die in a hula related accident.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Some Unique names are very nice and others are just plain crazy. Who calls their kid Violence? Some crazy ass MF if you ask me. Talula is cute, but the rest is so immature and stupid.

Yep, unique names with a flair, Talula would have been just fine.

I see these kind of names as potentially abusive. Something like "Should Have Aborted" for example, would have psychological impact on a poor kid.

Of course it gets into a gray area where you're just judging a name. I know a kid whose middle name is "Kick" because he used to say "kick!" and throw the hang loose sign. The name's a joke, but it's harmless and he's a good dad.

i think that in this case it is clear the child felt the same way.

i wonder why the judge had to force the parents to change this name? why they didn't listen to the poor girl when she told them she hated the name?

Oh, indeed! The "Engelbert Felicia" combination is irresistably intriguing, and "Humperdink" - well, must I even explain the obvious allure of that?!

Don't change a thing, my dear!

Erin is Gaelic for Ireland, where my mother is from and where I was conceived.

Very pretty, Erin, and suits you. Ireland is a captivating, lush and beautiful place...but rugged, too. That's you. smile

Parents all too often seem to delight in a kid's embarassment. Usually it's harmless, but sometimes I see parents ignoring real problems.
