In all honesty i think her statment about having more abortion than she can count bothers you more that it does Barbara.... These abortions took place in a time in her life when she was really reckless, She's older and wiser now and i believe she's just talking about how out of control she was at that time in her life.

lol It doesn't bother me at all. And I don't care how many abortions she had. I'm just commenting on how unwise it was to divulge this info considering where she works and who she works for. Also, she coulda been more tactful again in light of the fact that she works on a lighthearted morning talk show.
[Edited 7/24/08 11:57am]

I don't think the type of show she's doing has any bearing on her admition. Whoopi has talked quite candidly about her abortions, one of which was self-administered when she was 14-years-old.

Book of Revelations
Celebrities speak out on abortion -- The new book ''The Choices We Made'' includes insights from Whoopi Goldberg and others on their experiences with abortion

By Kelli Pryor

Anne Archer was 19 when she spent a Thanksgiving holiday driving to Mexico with her boyfriend. Linda Ellerbee was 20 and wearing a robe and bunny- fur slippers when a man with dirty fingernails came to her apartment at midnight. Whoopi Goldberg was 14 when she went to a New York City park with a coat hanger. What followed were illegal abortions. The stories of those decisions and the people who lived with them are just out in a book called The Choices We Made: Twenty-Five Women and Men Speak Out About Abortion. At a pro- choice march on Washington, Gloria Steinem was struck by the number of influential people who were concerned about keeping abortion legal. She and journalist Angela Bonavoglia started asking women to discuss their abortions — legal and illegal. Many, including Rita Moreno and author Grace Paley, did, but not without much soul-searching. ''Some had not talked about it since it happened,'' Bonavoglia says. ''It was a process of going back in time and reliving their abortions.'' In the end, the book isn't a parade of pro-choice arguments but a revelation of the range of emotions that comes with choice. As actress Bess Armstrong says, ''The decision to abort isn't black and white; it is every heartbreaking shade of gray.''

Ok, I'm not a christian so maybe I'm just ignorant, but how can anyone be a christian and have abortions? I'm all for abortion, but if one considers themselves a christian isn't it just a tad hypocritcal to have abortions?

I'm just asking confused

I can't confirm, but I believe Sherry is actually a born again Christian. In which case the abortions are what can seen as transgressions made in her past for which she openly admits she is remorseful.

I actually read the article in full. One thing that struck me is when she said

"I have had more abortions than I would like to count..,"

For me this changes the tone entirely vs. if the actual sentence was

"I have had more abortions than I can count"...

Essentially because it gives me a sense of remorse on her part, of having gone through a wild and trying time that she had to free herself from. For me it feels like an honest to goodness "testimony" on her part...and I actually feel that it's possible Barbara will understand...

...especially as she has freely admitted in her younger days she was no angel herself giggle

Oh my lord, that's so scary eek

Whoopi was born in the 50's, grew up in the 60's...this was the time when girls were getting abortions with coat hangers neutral. Thank God she didn't bleed to death.

Okay, Sherri Shepherd is not an established superstar like Whoopi is. Whoopi can do almost anything and has. She's been around for ages and has a following of fans. Sherri Shepherd is another Star Jones. Kinda known, but not really. All I'm saying is that she might wanna tread lightly cuz she could easily end up like Star, on top of the world one minute, and hosting a Bad Girls reunion episode the next. cool

I wouldn't compare Sherri to Star. The only similarities they have (to me) is that they are black women. We have to remember that Sherri's job is to go in and out of breaks as well as do food segments, interviews with "younger" people and be upbeat. Star's job was to provide legal advice (when necessary) and do a few food segments. Of course, we all know the major job requirement is to kiss Barbara's a$$ on a regular basis.

I was just comparing them to say they were both the low person on the totem pole in terms of fame and power.

Oh lawd! They addressed that yesterday lol . You can see clips from the View on their ABC homepage. They post the "Hot Topic" discussions there daily. I'm not too worried about Sherry and Barbara, though. It seems the mass media took bits and pieces and then twisted her sentences around a bit. Barbra had a cute comeback to hearing the news. But more crazy than this, did you see Whoopi and Elizabeth get into it last week? Lizzie got dismissive about the existance of racial predjudice in America just ONE time too many, and Whoopi, who is normally calm and Ms. Counterculture Live&LetLive, morphed into the stern black grandmother who came of age in the 1960's--- and took that child to task. Lizzie ended up crying like she had just had a SWITCH tooken to her behind!!!

What day was this ?

Here it is.

But Star was far more outspoken and opinionated and she liked to clash due to her "lawyerness" and Sherry doesn't come off like that. Plus, Babs wouldn't trip off what Sherri said about the abortions, considering Babs just revealed in her book how she was fucking with a well-known married politician back in the day.

Also, Sherry has some of the most scrumptious pair of mammary glands I've ever seen. razz
