It's a must see (for me, anyway). Every time I'm in Chicago I go there. Granted, I've not been in years, but I do.  A few of my favorites are there...
Nighthawks - Edward Hopper 
The Old Guitarist - Pablo Picasso. Seeing this one upclose is amazing, because you can see the outline of a different painting (a woman's face) underneath it. | |

And notice there are no strings in his guitar. Also---the Art Institute is suggested admission/pay what you wish so don't feel obliged to pay the prices listed.

René Magritte's Time Transfixed (Although it says it's not currently on display.)
