Then use a different word. Just because the definition of a word doesn't suit your view, is no reason to appropriate the word, change the definition, and use it. It's just intellectually dishonest and lazy to do otherwise.

lol.....my view?
People are losing homes and jobs at an alarming rate.
It has nothing 2 do with my view.

While that may be true (although in regards to the homes, the majority of those losing their homes are people who had no business taking on such large mortgages to begin with), it doesn't dispute the fact that the US is not in a recession. It's really quite simple.

Why so condesending? I did read the articles. The articles describe an ongoing debate among experts because they don't agree on the accuracy of the methods being used to measure GNP. Textbook definitions don't mean a whole lot if the formulas used are being tampered with.

Is it possible to have a respectful discussion without trying to belittle each other?

Sorry, I didn't meant to sound condescending.
No problem.

My point is simply that we're not in a recession based on the definition of what a recession is. The articles you provided did not address that...they simply used other ways to define the term in order to fit their view.
I take your point but I still think they present a valid argument, terminology notwithstanding.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Dayclear

I'm in retail sales and I know it's just a matter of time for my store. All weekend it was so dead in there you could hear crickets chirpping confused

From today:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An emergency dose of government stimulus helped the economy grow at a 1.9 percent annual rate in the second quarter, a soft pace but enough to take it off a path perilously close to recession.

The second-quarter advance in gross domestic product followed a slim revised growth rate of 0.9 percent rate in the first quarter, previously reported as 1 percent.

That followed a 0.2 percent contraction in GDP during the final quarter of last year and skirted the popular definition of recession, which is back-to-back quarters of declining output, but it provided no comfort to financial markets.

whofarted Ummmmm. . . Dillard's is the bomb. It's a more upscale version of Macy's.

True, very expensive. Upscale. So is Parisian (well now I heard it's called Belk & Parisian in some places).
