New ticket plan aims to keep Dallas fans out of Cards' stadium

The Arizona Cardinals are trying to "protect the nest." This means they'd like University of Phoenix Stadium to continue to sell out, and to do so with as few opposing fans as possible.

In the past two seasons, there was little concern about this since the team sold out every home game. But with ticket sales a bit slower as the third season approaches, the Cardinals are requiring fans who want to buy tickets to the Dallas game on Oct. 12 to also buy tickets for the Aug. 7 exhibition opener vs. New Orleans. Cardinals fans have "created a decisive home-field advantage" the past two years, and the team wants to keep it that way by discouraging single-game ticket sales to Dallas Cowboys fans, team spokesman Mark Dalton said.

"Our goal is to have as many Cardinal fans in the stadium as possible," Dalton said.

In terms of overall ticket sales, "We're a little slower than we were at this point" last year, Dalton said, citing the slowing economy. Dalton estimated about 58,000 season tickets have been sold. Ideally, the Cardinals would like to sell about 60,000 season tickets and hold back 3,000 or so to sell for individual games.

"If we don't get to that threshold, then there will be a few more individual single-game tickets available," Dalton said.

I hate the Cowgirls(and their front-running fans) with a passion - even more than the Eagles & 49ers. F-ck Dallas. It was SO sweet watching Jerry Jones eat it in the closing seconds of that playoff game.

Roy Williams is doing handstands with Shockey out of NY. I'm sure he got tired of watching the Shockster toast his as twice a year. razz razz razz

My hate for Dallas goes way back to the 70s, when the Giants were woeful, and Landry's Drugstore Cowboys used to stomp on us. That sh!t ended once Parcells got Big Blue on track.

And I loved it when Bradshaw & Co. beat Dallas TWICE in the Super Bowl. YEAH!

And to answer SOMEBODY's querstion:

The term America's Team is a popular nickname in American sports that most often refers the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. The term is recognized and often used by media outlets, including ESPN, Yahoo!,and HBO Sports.

Bob Ryan, the Vice President and editor-in-chief of NFL Films, coined this for the Cowboys in 1979. After preparing and editing the team’s 1978 season highlight film he had to come up with a title for the film. As a life long fan, Bob decided the title would be a great fit. He was quoted as saying:

"I wanted to come up with a different twist on their team highlight film. I noticed then, and had noticed earlier, that wherever the Cowboys played, you saw people in the stands with Cowboys jerseys and hats and pennants. Plus, they were always the national game on television."
During the Cowboys' first game of the 1979 season, a nationally televised game against the St. Louis Cardinals (which Dallas won 22-21), the television announcer introduced the Cowboys as America’s Team and the nickname stuck.

The popularity of the Cowboys as America's Team has been supported somewhat by such NFL records as Team with Most Consecutive Sold Out Games...a streak of 160 home and away games (including playoffs) that began on December 23, 1990 at Philadelphia's Veterans Stadium and came to an end on December 24, 1999 in a Christmas Eve game against the New Orleans Saints in the Louisiana Super Dome. Other examples are the NFL games featuring the Cowboys that result in record-breaking ratings at the time of broadcast, such as 7 of the 8 Super Bowl games featuring the Cowboys and the NFC Championship Game between the Cowboys and 49ers, the only non-Super Bowl NFL game to be ranked in the Top 45 Primetime Telecasts of All Time. Another example: the Thanksgiving Day games, traditionally hosted by the Cowboys since its inception in the mid-60's. The only two years a different team hosted the game resulted in such low TV ratings that the NFL invited the Cowboys back as host, a position the team has never again relinquished.

Interesting article ranks Jerry Jones as the 2nd best owner in the league. thumbs up!

http://sports.yahoo.com/n...&type=lgns

2. Dallas Cowboys – Jerry Jones (Stephen Jones): Given what the Joneses are in the process of accomplishing in Texas – building the greatest stadium since the Roman Colosseum – it’s difficult not ranking them No. 1. A fourth Super Bowl ring in two decades of ownership might put them over the top, and with all the talent they’re hording on the Cowboys’ current roster, they just may get one come February. Remember that when Jerry Jones bought the team in 1989, he was considered a reckless renegade who would destroy the NFL as we knew it. With help from some like-minded free-thinkers, he did – and his partners should get down on their knees and thank him for that.

Innovative and tenacious in his pursuit of uncharted revenue streams, Jones is obsessed with building a winner and isn’t afraid to spend whatever it takes to do so. He’ll even overspend to enhance his brand, with the $1.1 billion stadium in Arlington set to open a year from now (on which eldest son Stephen, the Cowboys’ cool-headed executive vice president, served as the point man) as the most glaring example. Last month, during his keynote address at the National Association of College Athletic Directors (NACDA) Convention in Dallas, Jones said he could have built the new facility for $700 million. “The reason I’m spending ($1.1 billion) on that stadium in Arlington is because of perception,” he told the crowd. “Only a fraction of football fans will ever set foot in it, but hundreds of millions will see it on television.” Its impact, he said, extended to “how John Madden talks about it, and how Al Michaels talks about it, and let me assure you that after I’ve had some time with them, they’ll know everything there is to know about it.” Here’s all I need to know: Among other brilliant touches, Cowboys players will emerge from the locker room and, before charging onto the field, will pass through a club section of low-riser seats filled by high-rollers. “The stadium’s gorgeous,” one NFL owner marveled. “Every player in the league will want to play there, to be a part of that, and the fans who buy in are going to feel like they’re getting value.” Jones also understands the marketing value of star power – and actively encourages quarterback Tony Romo to enjoy the fruits of off-the-field celebrity. “I love him – more from a quarterback perspective,” Romo says. “For a quarterback, you’re judged on winning and losing. And if you don’t have a guy in charge who wants to win as badly as you do, you don’t have a chance. Jerry gives you a chance.”

I hear Jerry Jones is doing the same sh!t the Maras are doing with the PSLs. Shame on them for pricing out the average middle-class fan. In NY, some folks have to fork over $20k per seat, which have been in their family for a generation - how can the average middle-class family afford that these days?

Not only are we America's team, but Mexico's team too!

Hate all you want to, but the Cowboys are the best organization in sports.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Dallas Cowboys announce ticket prices for new Arlington stadium

ARLINGTON – Dallas Cowboys fans will be able to buy tickets for the new $1.1 billion stadium in Arlington for as little as $59, only $9 more than the cheapest seats at Texas Stadium.

The team announced ticket prices for the remainder of the new stadium on Thursday afternoon. The reserved seats, which are all expected to be season tickets, will range from $59 to $125. Some of those seats will have no personal seat option, while others will require options ranging from $2,000 to $5,000.

Previously, the Cowboys had only announced the prices for the most expensive seats. Those clubs seats cost $340 per games and require options ranging from $16,000 to $150,000, the most expensive in the National Football League.

The stadium, still under construction, will open for the 2009 season.

Cowboys officials said they have no plans for single game tickets at the new stadium. The team has no single-game tickets available for the 2008 season and only had a few for the 2007. Those 2007 single-game tickets sold out in about a half-hour.

The team on Thursday also announced they would sell 1,200 “loge” seats, which are located in the upper deck at mid-field. Those will cost $125 per game and require a $12,000 seat option. Those will have cushioned club style seating, but those seat-holders won’t have access the stadium’s private clubs.
