Because of the Org

I was fired from a job I've loved more than any other last Friday.

I forwarded a link to "Masturbate for Peace" website to my clique and somehow, by someone, it was complained abount, and with the zero tolerance thing at my company, I am gone.

This is one of the worst things that has EVER happened to me in my life! I was up for an awesome promotion that would've had me making more $ than ever B4 in my life. I was respected, well-liked and really enjoyed what I did. I had free cell phones and service and just SO many other great benefits, and its all GONE. Right before Xmas, and I'm looking thru the f*cking paper!!!

I don't know what to do.

I'm busting my ass with resumes etc, but I'm so depressed and I just don't feel like anything is gonna compare.

No tears left.

FUCK!

Sorry to hear about this buddy - but it ain't the org's fault. evil

But seriously, I'm very sorry - maybe you can get a similar job at another company? Some people just have NO sense of humor.

Look on the bright side - now you'll have even MORE time to spend at the org! mr.green
I mean, like, where is the sun?

Dude!

I'm so sorry to hear that.

I think I need to take a chill from the org at work myself.

Especially since I got a little one now.

No need to screw it up now.
It seems there are lay-offs every month now. And they seem to be looking for a good excuse to fire people. That way they don't have to give out severence packages.

I wish you the best in finding something new and fast!
I hear ya when it comes to a good job.

I just got my own office, new mac, great health and dental benifits and nice pay (could be better but enough so my wife can stay home with the baby, I realise I'm truly blessed just to have that option)

I think a lot of us might want to re-evaluate our time at work spent here on this site.

I know my corporate policies have a zero tolerence to even visiting a site like this because of the language on it.

The company security guy knew when I'm on here, but he was cool and didn't report it. He quit so I better watch it. The new guy monitoring web activity might not be so nice.

I know with my company there is a security department that monitor's web activity.

There are "sniffer" programs that also monitor the e-mail content. It's there job to report any lewd activity. And believe me, your just a number to these guys. I just happen to fall into a different monitoring catagory and have a different "red flag" setting than all the others.

Sounds like that might have been a possibility, unless someone else was jealous of that promotion...

Not a good time to be out of work.

Very sorry to hear that feltbluish! But it seems to me that no one would fire a valued employee over such a trivial matter. Perhaps someone had it in for you? Or the company is having problems and needs to lay people off and felt it was cheaper to fire you instead of making you redundant?

Either way, it sucks. Good luck with the job hunt...

No...many larger companies do indeed have zero tolerance policies...SBC/Pacbell fired a person for forwarding an email that contained rude comments. The lady was a good employee but when H/R departments are so removed from the realities of daily work...workmanship and dedication to job become irrelavant...

damn big companies...im hiring, if you want a job in the Bay Area. wink

Sorry to hear the bad news Feltbluish.
That's the problem w/corporations, you're nothing but a
number to them. I'm glad I don't have access to a computer
at work--I'd probably be in the same position as you.
Hope you find a job that will keep the bills at bay soon.

I've worked in such big companies, for many years. Zero tolerance is one thing (when related to, for example, having pornography on your work PC or something) but to be fired for forwarding a humourous email to a bunch of colleagues? Without even a verbal or written warning beforehand? That's just a rubbish way to run a business.

That's what "zeor tolerance" means, Ian. It means "We're not gonna exercise our good judgment -- the axe will fall automatically" Because of zero tolerance policies, countless first offenders and people guilty of very minor stuff get fired, expulsed, incarcerated, etc.

Let me tell you why you can't base a whole society on "zero tolerance" : same one you can't base a family on no tolerance at all. It is the last refuge of morally infantile.adults who refuse to exercise their much touted "common sense".

I'm really sorry the whole thing happened. This is why I never do anything remotedly suspicious at work. I don't post from work, I visit only the safest sites, I don't send anything that could be called offensive, I don't swear or name body parts and I don't use email for anything that is even remotedly risky for myself or anyone else, etc.

emailing a link about "masturbating for peace" can quite fairly be seen as lewd sexual conduct = sexual harrassment.

I am sorry to hear you are being fired.
Guess they found the stick to hit the dog with.
Maybe it is a bad time so for christmas but any time would be a bad time.
Among my friends American companies have the reputation to turn you into a number and treat you alike. Fuck em.
If you feel mistreated it is maybe better to leave the job.

For me there are 3 things important at a job. First the money ,2nd my co-workers and third the job itself. The job is about what i have to do and where. Those three must be in balance. If they are not ,i leave the job.
I had several jobs and i fired myself because one of those three was not so good.
Companies may think for you 10 other people but if they have experienced me at work they don't say that so fast. It may be that way but i always turn it around. For you 10 other jobs.
I know friends who are being bullied and almost crumble for the boss. And for what? For the money. Selfrespect is more important. That would NEVER happen to me.
I should also add that on my work i don't visit sexsites. I am there for the job and maybe that is why i am so appreciated.
Good luck to you in finding a new job.

...BTW, i'm a little more lucky where i am. I work at an energy company where almost all the traders are men. I'm equally guilty of pulling up websites like 'masturbate for peace' or 'gerbils: friends or lovers?' but they're pretty cool about shit like that.
My old job, i was surrounded by 15 perpetually pregnant women who were very cliquey. You can imagine my sense of humor was a sore spot for them. Never stopped me though. Joke 'em if they can't take a fuck! Wa Ha!
