Wow! I worked for Starbucks for 5 years (quit in May woot! ) and I must say that this is not surprising...

The company has been losing money for some time now and there are just too many flaws in the system. I feel bad for some of my friends who will evidentlly be out of jobs or forced to transfer, but Starbucks just reeally isn't keeping up with the times

Other businesses are opening up and doing everything they do- just better or cheaper lol
If you will, so will I

They are only over priced, as with everything else now, due 2 the fuel crisis!!!

Also, because of said fuel crisis, not many people are travelling any great distances now, so people are not stopping at the stores so much for coffee, etc.

Plus, it now costs a lot in fuel 2 ship all the supplies 2 all the stores around the USA and then it snowballs 2 lay offs and closures!!!

They were over prices way before they hiked up the oil prices.

yet despite this, Starbucks is extremely wasteful
less coffee would need to be ordered if they weren't rebrewing every half hour now. If only you knew how many full pots of coffee I poured down the sink in my days there!

also, better incentives need to be offered to customers who bring their own mugs. The amonut of cups and sleeves wasted is obscene!
Especially in areas like where I was working where you've got rich little women who insist upon double or tripling their cups because "its too hot and my hands are sensitive" neutral

they should offer free wi-fi to encourage more people to bring computers in and linger as well. The store I was at was across the street from a Panera Breads, and TONS of times when people would ask me "do you guys have free wi-fi?" I'd have to tell them that there was a fee to use it
Their next question would be "Does Panera have free wi-fi" and before I could finsh sayinf "yeah" they would be on their way to get coffee there lol
If you will, so will I

I got their ice coffee with the sugar-free hazelnut

It was okay, but my main complaint was that it tasted "weak" but that's partially because Im just used to Starbucks' stronger coffee

They're closing one store here in Madison - and it's exactly the one I thought would be closed. There's another one less than a mile down the road - and it has a drive-thru.

Good. biggrin

Shame they just built one in my area. They could have put something cool there like...a dress store. Ah well. Nobody really goes there for coffee anyway. Everyone drinks Dunkin Donuts coffee.

I don't usually drink at Starbucks unless I'm in a pinch. I usually drink coffee from a place called Coffeesmiths here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It's terribly overpriced too. It cost $4.13 for a large mocha. I limited myself to one a week but now I'm going to try to make my own coffee. Wish me luck! I'm quite lazy.

I only drink espresso and I've never had a good one in Starbucks. But I like the taste of coffee without a half gallon of hazelnut syrup so I must be a freak.

yup, and now that the are closing all these stores after their saturation of the market, what does that leave us?
With over priced coffee everywhere. Instead of 25/50 cent bottomless cup of coffee, its now at the very least 2.00 US dollars for a limit of 2 cups at your favorite cafe/diner. and anywhere from 5 to 7 dollars for a coffee drink anywhere else.
ASSES. All these people ruining every corner of every market is a fucking crime.
Like coffee was Starbucks idea.

Folks you do realize they are demising 618 stores of their 11,000? Hardly a crisis.
