Did anyone check out the "animated comic" version they just released for free in iTunes? It's pretty cool, except for the fact the fact that the sole female character in the first chapter sounds like "Dr. Girlfriend" on the Venture Brothers.

Are y'all referring to Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the Comedian?

It looks good, but like with so manythings I don't know how I feel about something so powerful being reduced to some mass marketed catch phrases

so a DC comic book is going to be made into a warner bros. movie. shrug

i don't see it as a sell-out. it's a major film studio adaptation of a major comic book publisher's graphic novel. hell, warner bros. owns DC comics.

i think the film can be every bit as powerful as the comic.

Oh, I don't mean a sell out, I just hate when anything important becomes mass marketed, even when it is done well

do you not think the original comic mini-series and graphic novel were mass marketed?

They reached a much more dedicated core audience than the film will

we can't really determine that until the film is released. some mainstream films end up as cult classics with a small but dedicated fan base, and sometimes quirky indie films end up as mainstream hits.

I wanted to like this, and I know i'm the only one that feels this looks cheesy as hell.
After The Dark Knight, all these movies are going to be judged in a diffrent light.

Totally. You can buy Watchmen at Borders or Barnes and Noble. A Store with about 4 feet of shelf space for graphic novels stocks it everyday.

Question for Anx, do you think The Watchmen is a whimsical book?
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

i do and i don't. i think it's very dark, but i think the look of the book has a lot of color. also, they chose to go with a men/women in tights theme rather than put them in leather jumpsuits a la the xmen movies. simply from a technical standpoint (costumes, sets, makeup, lighting, etc.) you're not going to have this "gritty realism" that everyone's drooling over.

you can have dark subject matter and still be cartoonish. marilyn manson made a whole career out of it.

I agree with the costumes aspect. I am glad they decided to put Carla Gugino in tights. I think the world is built so the costumes fit it though, if that makes sense. It will be gritty and powerful, and even in the brighter costumes, the Watchmen will blend into the world.

1985 was a very colorful time. that's how i remember it, anyway. a little TOO colorful. i can see the colorfulness of the costumes working in concert with the neon colors of the 80s and the great range of colors from the graphic novel.
