Family Guy is OK. It makes me chuckle sometimes. The flashback bits get a bit cumbersome, but they were a cool idea in the beginning.

Never seen the other show. Is it funny?

Family Guy used to be great, it's premise has run though....

The flashback jokes may be good one-offer's, but they don't have any substance to them whatsoever. They sacrifice plot and story development for an unrelated joke that could fit anywhere, anytime. But it did have it's time in the sun.

American Dad is a significantly better show than Family Guy, I really enjoy that.

Home Movies.... is an amazing piece of work. I have the complete series on DVD....

But not everyone will like it. More importantly, it truly takes repeated viewings to appreciate. Once you start to understand the characrters in that show you won't be able to tear yourself away from it.

It also helps to watch that show in order, though it's not necessary. There is a degree of character development throughout the four seasons though.
