Pits -- Hairy or Smooth?

I've never bought into the Hollywood ideals of beauty. My friends normally tease me about preferring, Janeane Garofolo, Lisa Bonet or Tracy Chapman over, say, Cameron Diaz, Janet Jackson or Britney Spears.

The same goes for shaving. (Maybe it was all those viewings of Woodstock or that childhood trip to France.)

The hairy-chest thread's posts about body hair got me wondering: Anyone else find the bohemian, "hippie chick" look attractive?

I shave everyday, even if I don't have to. I like to be smooth everywhere. I occassionally give myself a wax but damn that hurts!

Hairy pits are just not attractive...especially when you are sitting at an outside venue eating and this chick next to you is loaded with pit-hair...

That's an interesting mental juxtaposition, Sag. I don't normally think of pits and dining outside. I mean, your reaction sounds like the way I'd feel if I were trying to eat a meal outside and someone was pickin' their toes. ill

Hair pits are unattractive. Plus they retain body odour.

That argument always sounded like a veiled assertion that women smell more than men. Most men don't shave. Do men stink because of their hair? I think there's a difference between being stinky and having hair. None of the "haired" women I've known have had b.o., either.

I know that was not a good picture, but that happened during the summer while I was eating at an outside restaurant..

In fact this person was having lunch with me and my friend Kent, he was interested in her until he saw that her pits were full of hair. heh,heh

Well it's rather complicated, but i'll try to explain..

men do not have an inner drive towards cleanliness, so

If they can't smell themselves they won't wash.
If they don't have hairy armpits to retain 24 hours worth of smells they just wouldn't do it!

Women tend to wash regardless of that so they can have hairy and hairless armpits but would still maintain their cleanliness
I feel pretty, that's enough

This topic seems to have veered away from "is it a turn-off" to a discussion of hygeine.

Probably a good sign that most people don't view it as analogous to, say, a man's beard. Most of you tend to view it as compulsory for women as tooth-brushing but no one on that side seems to explain why it's not (to continue that analogy) compulsory for both women and men.

Alright, I'm not saying I agree with this logic, but I'll give it a shot.

Hygeine aside, I believe women are expected to shave to create the illusion of youth. Little girls don't have body hair. I've known men who prefer women shaved EVERYWHERE for this very reason. Having a young pre-pubescent girl is an ideal fantasy for many older men. Even without that, throughout history men have traditionally mated with younger females. Look at how many women there are in the western world who are super concerned about wrinkles, and other outward signs of aging. This just follows that path.

Thanks, all, for the comical discussion. Thanks, also, to the non-shaving Orger who offered her (quiet) support and humor. lol
