Black Canary Barbie causes a stir

I don't know, I think she looks pretty hot. Reminds me of the superhero dolls I had as a kid.

S&M Barbie lashed by public
BARBIE’S new S&M look has whipped up a storm -- with protesters dubbing it "filth."
The doll’s image is transformed with kinky fishnets, motorcycle jacket, black gloves and boots.
Makers Mattel say Black Canary Barbie, out in September, is based on a DC comic superhero of the same name.
But religious group Christian Voice said: "Barbie has always been on the tarty side and this is taking it too far.
A children’s doll in sexually suggestive clothing is irresponsible -- it’s filth."

On the one hand, I just think, "It's just clothes. No big deal"

But then on the other hand I think, "Wtf is up with sexualizing every freaking toy for young girls?"

I know its just clothes but it's adult clothing and can't we just keep what's considered adult dress for adults?

I'd never dress my daughter like this, so I can't see how this toy would be appropriate at all.

Some people just need to take a chill pill. Pity the Sun doesn't show the packaging that comes with it that explains the REST of the story. rolleyes

Batgirl Barbie is pretty cool, too: http://www.barbiecollecto...?sku=L9630

The thing to remember is that some of these are specifically aimed at the collectors and not just little girls.

i have a five year old daughter and some of the clothes for her age are scary. they are just mini versions of adult clothes. some are really slutty.
this doll looks like it is aimed at older kids to collect, maybe? i can't see how they expect kids to buy it.

Isn't it sad enough that if Barbie were to be blown up into a life sized woman, taking into account her dimensions, she'd be 7 foot 7 inches tall and her legs alone would be over 5 feet, not to mention being a size zero? lol
Now girls, not only get to feel inferior but now need to consider that glamorous also means slutty? lol

I love the doll though. shrug

These are the Superhero dolls I basicly worshiped as a little girl.

It is so not the same thing...

(This one was my favorite, she has a mermaid fin that goes over her legs but I can't find a pic of it. mushy)

This is what my ex said. He's a doll expert.

Oh yeah, the Black Canary doll. It’s so funny to me how the “protesters” come out and judge a doll when they clearly don’t know what they are talking about. It’s a black label collector’s doll…meaning it’s not for kids and won’t be sold in Toys R Us or other retail outlet…they have to be ordered. If an adult wants the doll…what’s the problem? LOL

I actually thought that maybe it was a collectors issue after I posted. I don't care what they make the collector's ones look like. lol

You know what disturbs me though....Bratz. I hate those things.

I think she's hot and would enjoy playing with her myself. But no, it's definitely not for children. I'm hoping it stays in collectors & comic book shops like the doll expert says. Christian groups, for the majority, have always had a problem with Barbie and always will. Growing up, I had a neighbor lady that tried to tell me to stop playing with my Barbies because she didn't understand why Barbie had to have boobs. I turned to her and said "but more importantly, why doesn't she have nipples?"

Yeah, I was gonna say...

This doll looks like what she's supposed to, Black Canary.

And she's still infinitely tamer than those fucking Bratz dolls.

Besides, it should probably be pointed out to those Christian fuckwits with too much time on their hands that "Collector" Barbies are not really for kids, they're for grownups.

Thing is, Collector Barbies, of which this is one, are not meant for little girls. They're meant for and marketed toward adults who'll probably keep them in the box or in a fancy display case.

Sure, some parents buy their kids these dolls, and that's at their discretion. But personally I think shelling out the extra cash (some of those Collector dolls are fucking pricey!) just so little Brittany can lose the doll's head in a week is insane, no matter how the doll is dressed.

Did anyone see the Wizard of Oz collection Mattel had out not long ago? No one could accuse Dorothy Barbie or Wicked Witch Barbie or Scarecrow Ken of being too sexy, but they're still not meant to be kids' toys.
