Show us your "Bucket List"

What do you want to do before you die?

My Bucket List (thus far)

1) Finish my Bach. degree
2) See The Great Wall of China

I live a great life. I do a lot of what I want to do. My list is short because I've just started thinking about it.

And you?

Stymie

1. Finish my degree.
2. Visit London.

I've had a bit of a bumpy ride but a lot of great stuff has happened to me over the years. I'm going to London in the fall and if I could stick around to finish the degree in 2 years, I could die happy.

1) Publish a book. Doesn't matter if it's through a major publisher or if it's self-published. I want to be able to hold it in my hand and put it on my bookshelf and say I did it, completed it, edited it, polished it, and made it as perfect as I knew how. I don't even care if I don't sell a single copy. I just want to create it.

2) Travel abroad more. I want to see India and parts of China. I still need to visit London. I have a lot of traveling to do.

3) Get at least one more tattoo.

4) There's probably something else, but I forget right now. I'm sure I'll remember on my death bed and be all "OH CRAP!" dead

Forgive me for putting you on the spot, but your list is interesting because it's stuff you can accomplish now for the most part. More travel, of course, is a perpetual goal, but you can immediately start putting a dent in it.

If you don't mind my being nosey, what sort of thing is holding you up? Money? Energy? Something else?

...You'd do well in London, BTW. nod

1. reconcile with my ex. not now, but sometime in the future.

2. get in shape. i've lost a lot of weight, but i need to tighten and tone.

3. father a child. or adopt one. it's not something i NEED. but it is something i'd like to do.

4. finish writing a book. even if it isn't published and no one else will ever read it, i'd like to be able to say i've finished one and be proud of it.

5. get a tattoo. i've been considering it for a decade, but i either can't ever settle on anything that i'm comfortable having etched into my skin for the rest of my life. and the one thing i HAD seriously settled on is no longer appropriate.

As for travel, money is a big factor. I'm sure part of it is a fear of the unknown, but after doing a little bit of traveling abroad last year, I know that the whole Customs thing really isn't something to stress out over, so that's one less mental obstacle for me. But yeah, money is a big hassle, especially with the state of airfares right now.

The tattoo is more manageable - it's just a matter of finding a design I can live with for the rest of my life. I look at other tattoos when I'm out in public and I think I must be very picky about what I would opt to put on my body. And you know what? That's OKAY. lol

The writing is the hardest nut to crack. I have a block as tough to crack as Fort Knox and Alcatraz put together. I start a lot of stories and never finish them. I'll look at what I started the next day and convince myself it sucks. Or I'll have a great idea in my head and I'll freeze when I actually sit down and try to plunk it out on paper. I honestly think that if I gave myself a month in a cabin somewhere, just me and my writing stuff, I'd be able to crank something out. I think the daily grind of work and all the other daily demands chip away at the concentration and energy I want to put into writing a book. I do fantasize about taking an extended leave from my job and just finding somewhere in the country to disappear to and just write for a month. We'll see if that happens someday. shrug
