Overall they agree ... You can try to be prepared as best you can mentally, physically, and the many other ways most of us do. There is no way to be 100% prepared for the experience - it's a work in progress and there are so many many different things that can and do happen. I guess you are right. Luckily I do not drink but a glass of red one here and there and I do not smoke. I try to eat good but I know there is some things I can do to improve that. I have taken a B complex for a while now that has folic acid in it. You'll do fine Val

MrsMdiver said: I guess the question is more for mom's that planned their pregnancies.
How exactly did you prepare yourself? Physically, mentally, emotionally? I know ppl that have planned it and all they talk about is the getting pregnant part but nothing about preparing for it. It is such a huge thing, major change. Shouldn't one prepare first? I mean we prepare ourselves for other things in life like running marathons, going on vacation, moving..... I would think that one needs to prepare for such a life changing event. Any suggestions or comments? ![]() I went off birth control for about 2 or 3 months prior. Started taking prenatal vitamins. The prenatal vitamins are important because the folic acid helps prevent neural tube birth defects. (spina bifida) The baby's brain and spine form together early along so sometimes women that don't know they're pregnant miss out on taking those vitamins early. Other than that I just tried not to think about it too much and let nature take it's course. Good luck.

Mentally... I forgot to say don't "plan" for it. You'll never in a million years be mentally prepared for it.

folic acid is all I can think of. Don't let it consume you, just start taking the vitamins, go off the pill and don't expect it to happen, because it will when you least expect it to. We "tried" for a year and then gave up, I got a job, after not accepting employment because I didn't want to have to quit for the baby, 2 weeks later BINGO We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. My mum is always telling me off for not planning better See I do not understand that?? The whole planning around holidays and events. I think it should happen when it is meant to happen not around things that could inconvenience us. I guess because of my age I worry about health issues. Get a complete physical. Speak with your OB\GYN regarding your concerns and intent of bearing a child. I was 28 when we conceived our son. Charles was 35. I had wanted a child since I was 23 but waited. I spoke to my ob/gyn in the states about it before I moved away. She said that since I have always been normal, regular and healthy as far as female stuff goes I should be fine. Though she reminded me not to wait too long because the chances of having twins rise quite a bit in my age bracket.

We have had several medical ppl tell us this already and they with the twins on both sides.... who knows. Maybe we should just keep practicing.
