HEY! I sort of resent that. She's a great musician. She has a bubbly personality and sometimes she may carry herself as a little bit sporadic in thought, but I'd probably approach a lot of interviewers the same way. But she does interviews where she speaks affluent to enlightening matters of the mundane. I think she's rather intelligent, but just doesn't know the right words to use. Like me, only older and probably messes around with a bong or two. She used to get high when she was younger. She had a group she called NelStar. She experimented with a few drugs, back then I believe. Oh, now I'm sounding retarded. God I fucking miss being sixteen. I always knew what to say; the right words and everything. I stink at the act and art of discourse. Somebody set my tongue afire. What use do I have of it if I can't articulate well, anymore? I'm going to go sulk in my sorrow.

Ace

Ryan Phillipe: Assumed he was a total douche, but then he was on Stern and came across as a humble, likable guy.

Dennis Miller: Hated him. But, after seeing a certain appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, my feelings have changed. Still can't stand the designed-to-impress obscure references and a lot of his politics, but I no longer despise him with the white-hot heat of a thousand suns.

Shakira: Assumed she was an airhead, but when she said she was a big Woody Allen fan, I had to reevaluate.

Helen Hunt: Disliked her, but a Charlie Rose interview changed my mind.

Tom Waits: Some comments he made in interviews promoting his last record confirmed suspicions I had about him and I'm no longer a fan.

Adam Levine. disbelief Initially I liked the guy. Then he started to wear on me with the mounting sex kitten thing and tales of his tremendous ego. Then I actually heard him interview once... talking in a fairly indiscreet way about liaisons he'd had, talking about how he and his current girlfriend had sex on the first date (apparently without asking if she wanted her biz out there like that), etc. He just came off like a real jerk.

i concur.
totally belives his own hype.
i didn't know much about Donald Sutherland until i saw him interviewed once. he came across as such a lovely man, and i could listen to him read the phone book.

who can forget the meg Ryan interview on Parkinson, it did nothing for her.

Also, plenty of brilliant people have hit the drugs, some of them in copious amounts, so that's really no excuse for Furtado being a dumbass.

WHile working in radio....

I LOVED Nas...one of my favorite rappers- he was a total bitch ass when he came to the station - there were two parties going on that night, one with Jadakiss and the other with Nas at another nightclub. People kept calling the request line asking where Jadakiss was going to be - he turned into a bigger bitch ass.

Scarface - was a mild fan, then interviewed him, and I LOVE him now. He was funny and ...funny! He came into the station in his house shoes singing some old R&B song waay loud and off key. He had the staff rolling!

Jadakiss - first of all...if you ever are in NY Hot 97 always has rappers or singers on as guest hosts for shows to sub for the resident jocks - I heard Jada host a show three years prior to my interview and he was GREAT on the radio. I interviewed him and it was a breeze - I liked him...but LOVED his music more after I interviewed him. He was GREAT with listeners and everything. Wish I could say the same for Nas..that was so disappointing.

Musiq Soulchild - He's an asshole - I don't like hearing his cock eyed ass music anymore.

Fantasia - sweetheart.

Jay-Z - very cool and seriously an aura surrounds him. Not a BIG fan, but was very good to radio people. Little boring in interviews, but not an asshole like non selling Musiq.

Sommore (The comedian) - Nasty. Nasty attitude.

Adele Givens - she is everyone's homegirl

Puffy - I still think he is a buffoon and hate that he endorses my favorite vodka...cause now I have to go back to Stoli, but VERY cool and nice to air talent. He was an asshole to the rest of the staff, but nothing but professional and nice to us intervewing him. So I can kind of give him SOME kudos - he's still a buffoon.

50 Cent - not bad - he had a fucking swat team following him, but not bad.

Faith Evans - sweet as pie

Queen Latifah - Cool as shit.

Bob Johnson (Founder of BET) - He treated me like the help. Asshole.

JuJu of the Beatnuts (one of my favorites ... unless you are a hip hop head you really wouldn't know who this guy is) Good interview - funny guys

OK...that's enough. Now I must return to my MBA studies..I mean I did leave radio for more pay and more security...not like radio is REALLY a growth industry

Whatever you say, dude. lol

Not a dude, but nice try.

As for brilliant people who've hit the drugs or drink:

L. Frank Baum
Lewis Carroll
Virginia Woolf
Arthur Rimbaud
Sigmund Freud (the guy may have been a complete quack, but he wasn't stupid)
John Coltrane
Dorothy Parker
Jack Kerouac

and a whole slew of others. You doubt?

So my point is, drug use, past or present, is no excuse of Furtado's stupidity.

My point is that you've probably watched some interviews by her during this "Loose Era" in 2006. I'll admit that she has a silly ditzy laugh, but she's not stupid. You're linking the way she has somewhat succumbed to the bubblegum pop world with Timbaland to how she is 24/7. There is no way that someone could make an album like Folklore and be a total klutz. Look up her interview with Tavis Smiley back in 2003. Matter of fact. Here she goes, right here:

He hired my friend (a graphic designer) to design the invite for his infamous white party in the Hamptons a few years ago. She said he was such an arrogant jackass (standing her up for appointments, being hours and hours late, etc.) that she finally refused to deal with him and would send her intern instead. lol

I don't know about "celebs" but a lot of times if I'm on the fence about an artist I'll listen to them lecture--if they can articulate well why they make the choices they do I may appreciate their art more, even if I don't find it aesthetically interesting. So with that said, my list:

John Currin: Wasn't really feeling his work before I heard him speak about it. He seemed to have no real reason for his choices (or he was totally lying). Either way, it made me dislike him/his work even more. He's full of shit, imo.

Paul Pfeiffer: Liked his work, but he couldn't speak well about it so it lost a little of its appeal.

Louise Bourgeois: Disliked her work before. Saw a few documentaries of her. She's crazier than a shithouse rat and needs to STFU instead of saying every damn thing that comes to her mind because she sounds like a lunatic. lol

Yinka Shonibare: Liked his work. Had the pleasure of interviewing him and he was so incredibly sweet and smart, that I'm a fan for life.

Sorry it's not as glamorous as "celebs" but I don't really follow that stuff much. shrug

edit: I thought of a celeb: Sandra Bullock. Still don't really like her as an actor, but I saw her on The Tonight Show and she *loves* Prince. Her finance flew her to Mpls for the 7/7/07 concert and she was talking about how she swears Prince looked right at her, etc., just a like a true fam. lol

Fauxie

It didn't change my opinion of her, as such, as I didn't previously have one, but I saw a few interviews with Kirsten Dunst and she came across as inarticulate and a bit dopey.

I have NO idea what the picture is for, but Redman is the shit!

I met him at a concert in 2001. He comes off as ignorant, but that dude played his cards so right and has been running his own label for a few years. Still makes a lot of $$$ touring. Crass....but I love his rhymes.

He had a little crush on me too, but details will bore you.
