Who are the friends you wish you still had?

This weekend I was doing some serious house cleaning and I came across a giant box of old class, sports team, trip, and school dance photos. It sent me down memory lane and I was wondering what happened to some of the people. I was looking at some of my old sports team photos and I saw these two dudes I played basketball with and ran track with Dwayne and Dean. They were twins and from 7th grade to 10th grade we always kicked it, then they ended up moving to Indiana and I haven't heard from them since. Then I found and old school dance photo from when I was a sophmore and my then girlfriend stephanie was a senior. We broke up cause she went away to Northern Cali for college. She was a great person and I often wonder what shes up too. Then it made me think, I wonder if I would still be cool with these folk if I saw them today, and I imagine I would. I'd want to talk to them about how there lives have changed and how they have stayed the same. If they have distinct memories of me like I do of them. In some odd ways I still wish they were friends. Does this happen to you?

My girl Nathalie that I've known since I was in pre-school. I actually reconnected with her recently on Facebook. We were best friends all through middle school, but we stopped hanging out 'cause her parents didn't like me. They were really strict with her and they thought my angelic ass was a bad influence. ....da hell? She was way worse than me! She's now living in Florida and I'm gonna hang out with her when she comes back to New York. biggrin

My high school sweetheart Josette, who I left because I couldn't keep my dick in my pants. I was going through a lot of personal shit when we met, she stuck with me faithfully, loved me unconditionally and was truly one of the best friends I ever had. We only had one argument (about me and another girl), she forgave me knowing I lied my ass off to keep her. But I still cheated on her a few times after that, got caught by her friends on the last occasion and fled the relationship before she embarrassed me. We're still very good friends to this day but I regret doing what I did, especially in light of the women I had the misfortune to be associated with following her. None can match the good qualities she has. None of them. What an ass I was.

sad Sorry boo.

P.S. She knows I regret it too. She's just too scared of having her feelings trampled on again to give me another chance.

Only one person from high school--he was killed in a drunk driving accident.

And maybe a few guys from college that I used to party with. I am usually pretty decent about staying in touch with people, most of the people from h.s. & college that I liked, I am still friends with.

I had a friend named Tracy and Jennifer. We were running buddies in high school. I also had a really good friend name Cicily who I went to high school with. I miss her especially. It was before I lost my interest in politics and we were gonna change the world lol We lost touch when she moved and went to college. I wish I ran into a family member of hers so I could pass my phone number on to.

This kid named Albert.
Him and I were really cool with eachother in elementary school, his pops and my grandfather used to stand outside and talk while they waited for us to get out of school. Up until the begining of 4th grade when his fam decided to move to Virginia.

Oh and I think I even gave him my # one time and my grandfather answered the phone eek told him not to call the house again. falloff

I'm such a loner...I feel comfortable being self-contained, maybe because it's so familiar to me. I can't think of any friends I've made over the course of my life that I'm glad are gone, though...

I do wish Ocean and I were still friends, though...we haven't talked in a good 15-20 years. I wonder what she's up to?? hmmm...

More than long-lost friends I lament over long-lost potential friends. I've recently been invited to my high school alumni social network and there are so many people there I wish I'd known better... to learn from... to teach lessons to. My social interactions could have been so much richer.

omg pat As if you don't! At least you got kids and a hubby to keep you company.

Only really one guy I went to high school with Mitch, he was a more positive influence on me compared to the people I was around all the time, he didn't do drug, didn't go out and get completely trashed at parties.....except my 18th lol he was more fucked up than me! And I was pretty bad. But other than that he was a good friend, we just didn't keep in touch after school ended sad

If I am no longer in contact with them, then there is a reason for that. I do no longer feel like hunting ghosts of the past. I used to, overtly, unable to let go. These days I realise you cannot take every friend on your entire journey of life and I just cherish them while they are along for the ride.

there's one friend, that we were sooooo close for many years! but when i married, i kept writing, but didn't get many responses back. now he never replies to me. funny how some friends decide not to stay in-touch with you after you get married and they are still single! neutral really hurts my feelings too, because i thought we would be life long friends! bawl

i wish i could come to that point.....but it's really hard to let what i thought was such a close friendship go! i considered this person part of my family, and then all of a sudden i marry and NOTHING! it's very rare that i hear anything from this person! neutral maybe i do just need to let it go? and move on, and just recall the good times we had in the past? sad

You know, of all the reasons to lose a friendship, relationships are probably number one. It often means a broken friendship bonds as you take a part you used to share with friends to another person or let it go totally.
I mean, a friend you used to go boozing with, find someone to pick up or to moan about one night stands is not going to be much of an addition to your circle of friends after a marriage, now is it?

That was just an example of course.

I have been close to people but friendships dwindled when either they or I hit rock bottom. Sometimes you just can't help a person or I don't wanna be helped, you know?

I have coped as describbed in my previous post. In your case you might wanna tell this person you are sad that you lost the bond, without asking them why or what. Just tell them you miss what was there and that you realise it is different now. Just thank them for a great previous friendship. Let them decide for themselves if they want to explain or come back into the fold.
But sometimes people just move on. It can be simple as that.
