I saw a breed called Affenpinscher reminded me of the Griffons but with shorter legs They ARE part Affenpinscher that's where the black comes from. Prince gets mistaken for an Affenpinscher all the time. They also have pug in them and come in a smooth version also as a result. Mine have "rough" hair.

Let's not forget that all dogs, like people, have unique personalities. Some are assholes, some are the sweetest things ever and most are somewhere in between. Just like humans. It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

SCNDLS said: meow85 said: Small dogs are assholes, and I say this as someone who's owned and loved terriers and terrier mixes her entire life. I wouldn't trade my Jack Russell for anything in the world, but I'm not stupid either. My lil charmer, Simon, wears a muzzle in public at all times, no argument.
Lumping all large dogs, or all bully breeds, into one category as vicious or dangerous is insane, and unfair to the majority of those dogs and their owners. BUT These are breeds that were bred for hunting and fighting, and so they can't just be treated as big harmless babies either. I think that instead of banning bully breeds, potential owners must be required to prove they know how to handle the animal properly. A special course or license, maybe? Same goes for smaller breeds like terriers. My own dog I got from a Jack Russell rescue -a group that's devoted entirely to taking care of puppies and young dogs of that breed who were given up because their owners didn't know what they were getting into. Apparently, the family who originally owned Simon were big Frasier fans and had no idea JRT's weren't actually as docile and quiet as Eddie. On top of that, they had a toddler who liked to pull on his ears and tail and couldn't figure out why he'd snap at the kid. So they abandoned him at the vet after being talked out of euthanasia for their "vicious" pet. I work with the Brussels Griffon rescue and I JUST had a dog that was surrendered by his owner after a year because they didn't have time to "train" him. He wasn't a biter but extremely hyper and needy. Well those are standard traits of these dogs and you constantly find people who get them without ANY clue about what the dog's needs are then they wanna blame the dog when things don't work out. I was able to find some friends to adopt him but the lady that runs the rescue was VERY hesitant because they weren't familiar with the breed. I had to convince her they'd be good owners and commit to checking up on him for the next few years. But it amazes me how people acquire then discard dogs because they didn't do their homework. That does really piss me off. I think ppl that do that should be forced to do community service in an animal shelter to see how many dogs are turned in that need care. This guy gets LOTS of attention at the airfield everyday. [Edited 7/14/08 23:47pm]

According to the study, they are fairly regularly snapping or attempting to bite strangers, family and other dogs. Hate these nasty little rat-dogs with a passion. Every day in NYC I see folks carrying these things around. I understand women doing that sh!t, but guys?? Give me a rottweiler or a bullmastiff any day.

lol. the dachshund. we had one of those and i can vouch for their snappy
personality. but, although they like to nip you in the ankles or bark very protective and even sometimes snap at stangers, i think they're pretty much ok. but i can see how they came out on top of that survey, the little buggers. now, the jack russel is another story. my jack russel is 7 years old now and since he was a pup he's always been very well adjusted. he loves all people, especially kids. just this weekend, he walked around the garden of a friend with a parrot sitting on his back, pinching his ears, and two other dogs following in hot persuit, trying to take my dog down. and he didn't even growl. later that day we were at a reunion and he sat with a 1 yr old and a 7 month year old on a blanket in the garden, watching them roll about and play. he never once touched their toys and just sat there as they poked fingers in his ears and eyes. the only thing he did was lay on his back and lick their hands he's never bitten or even snapped at anyone in those seven years. but i guess that's just the upbringing lol. you can turn any dog into a viscious killing machine or into a softy who likes nothing more than playing and being nice. some of it is doubtlessly imbedded in the dog's dna but a huge portion of behaviour is due to the upbringing and training, just like it is with children and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
