okay, etiquette mavens: wedding advice please!

the situation:

one of my oldest, bestest friends in the whole world is getting married later this year, and i want to do something extra personal and special.

the wedding is in november, so obviously i have a lot of time to mull ideas over. hmmm

i wanna do something extra super nice, i don't want to invest in a gift that's going to be lame or forgotten about. i want it to have some meaning, for both her and her husband, though primarily for her.

are there any "traditional" gifts people get their best friends when they get married? any non-traditional ideas that you've experienced that have been a knock-out success?

ideas, please!

Anx, as skilled as you are at writing and humor (or atleast you seem to be here) maybe you could write them something...if she's the type that would appreciate something like that...I know thats pretty simplistic but words can mean so much to some folks...shrug

i was thinking about doing a surprise drunken powerpoint presentation at the wedding reception, complete with embarrassing pictures and silly charts/graphics. getting my hands on proper A/V equipment on the down low might be a bit of a challenge, but it could be worth some laffs, especially if i bring handouts for everyone. lol geek

see? i need help. redface

just joshin ya. she's a fancy trained private chef anyway. she'd just end up critiquing me. rolleyes

so for a gift, i was thinking of getting a pair of champagne glasses from tiffanys (with names engraved?) and a bottle of schmancy bubbly. is that too cheesy? i don't want to get them an electric skillet or a floorbot. but if the skillet and the floorbot is on their registry, am i bound to those options?

I got engraved champagne glasses for our wedding, we laugh at them because they are so cheesy, but we use them and everytime we drink out of them we do the entwined arms thing just for fun lol and it does makes us think of our wedding, no other gift does that (all the others were cash hmmm )

would it be less cheesy if they were fancy champagne flutes that WEREN'T engraved? and i was also thinking of offsetting the cheesiness of the flutes by looking for some funky and/or locally made bubbly to go with it. something nice, but kinda unique and not the typical established "fancy" champagnes. unless that would be an even CHEESIER idea... confused

why even bother with champagne? they could just sit around in their baseball caps and engrave all their wedding gifts!

I've been to a couple of weddings where the bestman & bridesmaid did a Powerpoint presentation about the bride and groom. A very good, and fun, idea.
thumbs up!
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.
