What's the centrepiece .... ...so a cookout doesn't BBQ food? you know - like barbecued ribs or whatever the hell meateaters slather barbecue sauce on. in my friend's opinion, it's a chance for people to show off their homemade barbecue sauces and marinades. i'm sure you CAN BBQ food at a cookout, it's just not the focal point. or something like that.

thekidsgirl said: Anxiety said: good luck with that. you CAN get veggie faux shrimp, but i tried faux squid once and it was NASSSTAY, so i'm a little afraid to try any other fake seafood products. yuck! I've never even seen veggie shrimp but I was just thinking, a potato could be used in place of a shrimp There used to be this stuff you could buy called "Tuno" that was fake tuna and it was SO FREAKING GOOD but they don't make it anymore. There's a vegan/veggie restaurant in the Village in NYC called Red Bamboo and they have a veggie shrimp appetizer that's AWESOME. check it out. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

Of course the obvious vegan burgers/sausages (the latter of which there are some AMAZING ones you can get now at Whole Foods), grilled veggie tofu kabobs roasted sweet onions (whole, you take a vidalia, wrap it in foil, pour a little marinade on it and put in on the grill till it gets soft, good lord) um, there's all kinds of salads vegan potato salad vegan pasta salad i mean i could do this all day, but ya'll mufuckas is making me HUNGRY!!! i'm gonna need to try out this roasted sweet onion business. Yeah, someone did that on one of my camping trips last summer and we freaked out about how good it was. just slice off the top and bottom, wrap it in foil, a little marinade and roast it for about an hour (or until the foil gets dark). when you can cut into it really easily it's done. sooooo good..... http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

Seriously, you can Google it and look at the menu. just about everything on the menu is veggie/vegan and it's ALL good. I go there every time now, and i'll be there in a couple of weeks! http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

I go there every time now, and i'll be there in a couple of weeks! last time i went to NYC, i tried a new place (new for me, anyway) called candle 29. it was a great place - it's rare that i get to eat in a "fine dining" atmosphere where everything's vegetarian, so that was a treat - but it was uptown and i'm more of an east village rat when i'm in new york, so it's nice to know about a new veg restaurant down in that area. i'll keep it in mind!

We call it barbeques, by me. Nobody says cook out here. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |
