on the other hand, if you're on a date in a fine dining establishment and you honestly don't KNOW which is the right fork to use, it's refreshing to hear someone say something like "i never know which one of these things to pick up first" rather than acting like you know and doing the wrong thing. that kind of vulnerable honesty says a lot about a person's character in the long run.

This is what is known in politics as "hanging a lantern on your problem" - ie, if you own it, it can't be used against you.

If someone employed that strategy, I'd be impressed. cool

it's just a matter of being honest instead of going into a situation all barney fife style and making an ass out of oneself. where i'm concerned, there's no underlying strategy. it's just less pressure to fess up to what i don't know sometimes.

Bad manners. At the table, put your napkin in your lap, know which fork to use, chew with your mouth closed, and put the fork down occasionally (it ain't a race).

And if we're walking on a sidewalk, put me on the inside - away from traffic.

i think if you conduct yourself gracefully and with confidence, some of the more "mechanical" rules of etiquette can be looked past. in my opinion, at least, etiquette is more about behaving in a way that doesn't offend others than it is simply following some arbitrary code of rules. i think there's a charm in knowing the "hard rules" of etiquette, though.

TOTALLY! I nearly ditched a woman I was having dinner with because she practically screamed at our server for not refilling her water quickly enough. That was our third "date" -- she never got a fourth.

I also hate it when people who don't make an effort to look nice for a date. They don't have to be dressed to the nines...but they shouldn't show up at a martini bar with rat's nest hair, flip flops, and a worn-out hoodie like someone I went out with recently.

wow, that is just eew, if they look like that on a date shows they don't care about themselves and thus will never care about you.

its also how a person drives in a car, like Sandra bullock's mom ( rip) told her and i completely agree, that the way a person drives will be the way they r in a relationship. Great advice and that is something that is always in the back of my head. Thanks Sandra's mom. .

agreed completely sweets. hopefully though if i do pick up the wrong fork the date doesn't look at me like What are you doin?, if he did id blush excuse myself take a breather go back to the table , and at the end the date, never go back.

There was but I'd have came across the table at him if he even THOUGHT about that shit. stab Sorry bastid didn't even offer to tip. Amd actually it wasn't the first date, I think it was the third. disbelief What was I thinking???

My thing is, if I initiate the date, I'll pay(tip included). In fact, some of my female friends get annoyed with me because I won't let them pay part of the bill. smile

I understand that BUT what really pissed me off was this fool telling me he don't eat beef then goes "off" the menu to order one of the most expensive beef dishes. disbelief

Men - sit facing away from the restaurant, so you can give your date their full on attention.. I hate it when you sat with some goofball, and they just wanna check out the waitresses and women passing.. so fucking rude
I will love you forever and you will never be forgotten - L.A.F. heart
