Most women on the street in most developed countries are larger than a 0-2. An American size 0-2 doesn't translate to the same size in other countries. Again, it's all about vanity sizing. Sizes are bigger with a smaller size number. Absoultely more women on the streets are bigger than a size 0-2 but average doesn't mean better. Unfortunately, in North America, average means fatter. I don't think I said anywhere that one was better than the other. I just pointed out that most women are not a size 0-2 regardless of which sizing metric is used. So I don't know why you're trynta make it seem like I said something I didn't say.

SCNDLS said: This is what I found on Snopes about Marilyn's dress size. http://www.snopes.com/mov...mdress.asp We can at least establish a range of measurements for Marilyn Monroe based on the available sources: Height: 5 feet, 5½ inches Weight: 118-140 pounds Bust: 35-37 inches Waist: 22-23 inches Hips: 35-36 inches Bra size: 36D A woman of Marilyn's height, at the extreme of Marilyn's weight range (140 lbs), would probably wear a size 12 dress today (which is the same dress size listed for Marilyn in the book The Unabridged Marilyn). Perhaps at one time she did wear dresses that might have been considered size 16 (or even 18) back in the 1950s, but she almost certainly did not wear dresses equivalent to today's size 16. This is borne out by citings such as the following (which might also be a source of some confusion,as a British size 16 would be the equivalent of an American size 12): [The Times, 1994] Even the 1950s mannequin does not have a totally unattainable figure. She has a wasplike waist, but her shoulders and hips are femininely broad. She resembles that universal sexual icon, Marilyn Monroe a dress of whose was recently auctioned and found to be a British size 16. Okay. I work for a clothing company. According to our size chart, Marilyn was an 8 in the bust, a 0 in the waist, and a 4 in the hip. She might've been a 12 in an el cheapo, skimp on the fabric K-Mart size - but not in standard ready-to-wear. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I guess we should also take the measurements themselves with a grain of salt because women and I'm sure the movie studios lie about those stats just like basketball players add inches to their height and football players add lbs to their weight.

I think it has to do with how a skinny model makes the clothes look and how they hang on skinny bodies. They're like human hangers lol...,The reality is that a subconscious message is sent out saying "Buy these clothes, and you'll look just as good as her!".

And it's probably why you rarely saw her in pants. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

i love my body and that's the only one i have to worry about. of course some days i don't but generally when i look in the mirror i like the curve from my back to my ass... i like my shoulders and i like the way my waist gives way to my hips. i'd be lost without my breasts. i like being more mature and realizing that there are men out there that will appreciate my body too. i just need to get in a belly dancing class already and shimmy away some of my stomach

Hell to tha yeah! My favorite scene in Steel Magnolias is when Dolly Parton and Olympia Dukakis are watching the mayor's wife shake her ass on the dance floor and Olympia says it looks like two pigs fightin' under a blanket. Then Dolly says she hasn't left the house without lycra on her thighs since she was 13. Maybe it's a cultural thing but I grew up being told that if you're dressed up you should wear at least a slip but usually a girdle. I haven't worn slips in ages but I don't like to jiggle or have rolls under my clothes so I usually wear some kind of foundation garment, even when I was at my smallest. When they stopped making my favorite ones years ago I bought every one I could find regardless of size.

doesn't plus size mean normal sized which equals harder for designers to work because it isn't a straight line? You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

But I just don't know why anyone would want to look like some of those sickly-looking freakishly thin models. At least 50% of the blame should go to men lol ...give your average American male a choice between two women who are identical in personality, facial features and intelligence, but one is overweight and one is underweight, the underweight one will probably be picked more times than not. Women know this, they see it...they're not stupid. So they start thinking their weight is a hindrance. Add onto that the message sent out constantly by the media (like you said) that "Life will be better if you are thinner!", and it's no real surprise, unfortunately. That's one of the reasons, anyway. In fact, I've found most women will NEVER believe that I really don't care about things like weight or height or whatever, even if I'm not talking about THEM lol...they just refuse to believe a man can be more attracted to a woman's personality, character, sense of humor, etc. than to her body.
