Great - I find myself suddenly in the situation where if I don't apologise

I will be getting the silent treatment from my sister.

neutral

I asked her if she had a spell-checker in her email software.

"dident ask for any criticism thanks, you sure can come across quiet nasty some times"

got this in reply

As long as she's silent, she can't misspell anything.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I don't really care about her spelling myself, but she is starting a business, and will need to think of ways to give customers the impression she is a professional. To me, carelessness in spelling means potential carelessness in other areas too. That may not be true of course, but why give someone a bad impression if you don't need to?

Is this typical for your sister? What I mean is, is she sensitive to criticism? (sp? lol )

My younger sister is something else. She'll ask me to critique (sp??) something and then get mad if I point out a problem. I mean almost hold your breath...stomp your feet childish fit mad.

I just throw that out there because I'm in a similar situation w/ my sis.

Anywho...it sucks. If my sister said something to me like you're responded to your spell check comment, it would depend on my day, mood ect...on how I would respond.

lol

She's your sister though...you'll work it out.

Maybe you can write her back and tell her that you weren't trying to hurt her feelings, but were looking out for her interests. She DOES need to seem professional.

The problem is more to it than it seems on the surface, you know, the whole HISTORY. I think she is always trying somehow to impress me and constantly seeks my approval. It makes me very uncomfortable, and is probably a source of some anxiety for her when I don't/can't give her that gushing praise (or whatever reaction it is she is expecting confuse )

if anyone shouldn't give her criticism it's me, I think it would be OK for someone else to tell her, just not me

1st spit @ your new sig

2nd: Was your spell check comment in response to something you were looking at that she intended to use in her business? If not, your spell check comment may have come across as a bit of a low blow, especially if she's sensitive about her spelling.

Have you told her your opinion about how bad spelling comes across to you in business?

Not knowing the full situation, I don't know, but again, you'll work it out.

it really seems to me she thinks I was saying it just to be mean to her, no bad intentions on my part at all.

no it wasn't at all sad
it was in response to a weird email she wrote to me about her being so business minded these days and not being able to attend my son's birthday lol
she had worded it in a way that made me think she was deliberately impersonating our dad, who writes in a really strange pompous way boxed
we joked about the dad thing - she laughed and agreed, she said he writes like that to seem more business like, and since she was feeling very business-like at the time maybe that is also why she wrote it in such a wordy way. Which kind of got me thinking about business writing, and probably totally tactlessly asked about the spell checker sad

you should tell her she's lucky that she only needs a spell checker and not a SMELL checker. when she thinks about that she'll realize you're right and that might cool her jets a little bit.

Charlotte...

I just find that there are so misunderstandings in e-mails. You could mean something one way and the person receiving it could take it very differently. Maybe you could call her on the phone and try and talk to her about it.

Maybe that would help her to hear that you were coming from a place of concern and not nastiness.
