Skiing vs. Boarding Winter has come early in the Sierra Nevada, so I'm preparing for fresh powder. I used to ski, but switched to boarding about 5 years ago. My current deck is a Burton BMC 168 with Flow carbon bindings and Northwave boots. In the deep, it's awesome!! I'll never go back to skiing! The freedom from extra gear and handling in deep pow are major reasons.
Who else has tried both, and which do you prefer? Has anyone else been in major fresh pow on a board? "When they tell me 2 walk a straight line, I put on crooked shoes"

Good Q.
Skiing is harder but doesnt require as much balance. Boarding is slightly easier 2 pick up and U have a bit more freedom 4 maneuvering. Both are EXTREMELY FUN and I think every1 MUST go skiing or boarding 4 a good week at least once in their lives. So I suppose, its boarding. But I enjoy Skiing more since Ive Skiied () alot more than Boarded. Plus Im really flexible and U cant go hurtling down a mountain side at 60mph whilst doing the splits with a Snow Board. Shame I never got me on camera doing that... "...because no-one gets there alone." - "...I like the floor. It's the only thing that seems real."

Sometimes riding a board on steep, deep terrain feels like I'm surfing Waimea on a BIG day - something I could never otherwise do. Skiing never gave me those thrills. "When they tell me 2 walk a straight line, I put on crooked shoes"

I haven't tried boarding yet (been skiing for over 20 years and love it) even though I keep saying I'm gonna have a go at it. Maybe next year. Some people are like Slinkies...
They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

So, I traded it in for skis and was on the single blackdiamond courses two hours later with no lessons (and never seeing anything more than frost in my life), going so fast the trees blurred. At one point I crashed while skiing down one of the diamond trails and I started rolling down what looked like a platuea to me, and when I tried to sit up to go get my skis, I realized I was STILL rolling. I love winter sports!

I'm not sure which activity is easier at the outset for a beginner. I picked up skiing sooner than I did boarding. But now, after fewer years, I think I'm a better boarder than I ever was as a skier. To me, that indicates that skiing is harder to master beyond that intermediate stage. "When they tell me 2 walk a straight line, I put on crooked shoes"

I've done heaps of skiing but onlywent boarding once. I thought it was great.
I'm really looking forward to having another go at it. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.
