Playing tricks, pulling pranks on kids, yay or nay? My niece was over at my parent's house, and after a marathon session on the Wii the poor little tike tired herself out and fell asleep in the living room. Her mum said she may as well stay over and that she'll pick her up in the morning. So I carried her off to the bedroom and as a little joke I left a life size cut out of The Predator next to the bed. I swear I could smell pee.
Still it's not as mean as the Japanese TV show were they told a kid her mother had died (this was on stage in front of an audience). The mother was in on it too. Oh, here's another prank some parents played on their kids.... Wer ist dort? Unterbrechende Kuh. Unterbrech... Muh!!!

I think it's pathetic when the kids are really young and they are not really able to comprehend that it's all just a joke...but older kids - I think they're fair game.
