Lock or Knock? OK, at work today i went to the bathroom to pee. I closed the door and started my stream and a co-worker walked in on me. He said 'geez, lock the door.' and I replied 'knock first, you idiot.'
We had this huge debate about the bathroom manners. Childish as it seems we got nowhere. He insisted that every time you go to the bathroom, you should lock the door. I said that i always knock before entering (maybe the door does not have a lock). I assume that if the door is all the way closed, its probably occupied (so better knock) Do you knock before entering or just walk straight in on someone doing who knows what? If i poo, I do lock. Where is Ms. Manners when you need her? ---------------------------------

If you don't lock (and why wouldn't you? ), don't be surprised to have visitors.

sometimes the locks don't work. my embarrassment ALWAYS works. therefore, i take the initiative to see if there are some legs poking down from the partition before i go barging in.
i take public bathroom etiquette very seriously. elimination of waste fluids should NOT be a social activity. people who are pooping and/or peeing deserve a wide berth.

I agree with sammi, lock and knock. It's best for everyone.
9 times out of 10 I lock the door. If I don't it's probably because the lock is defective. This one time I was a "one seater" bathroom with a defective lock, so I just closed the door. Anyway, as I was washing my hands some lady comes in and almost starts to pull down her pants before she sees me standing there washing my hands. I just stared in shock until she noticed me. It was a very strange experience.

It wasn't a stall, it was a room. there was no way for me to reach the door with my hand. that's what i meant by a "one seater".

do people really not think to lock the door when they go in a bathroom stall to sit on the throne? that's not right.

i think it's like how some people don't wash their hands. don't get me started on men who don't wash their hands after using the urinal. nobody wants to deal with penishands.
