I was not offended, I seen worse!! And no I am not anti-gay. I may be Republican but I talk and respect everyone. I am going see George Michaels in concert Monday after going to Essence fest in New Orleans this weekend!! Sharp contrast and I am a very nice latino boy!! So i am very versatile and diverse!! I know more than Jennifer lopez and Shakira!! I just wanted opinions

if you only like gay people when they aren't offensive to you than you aren't as diverse as you think.

This is exactly how I feel.

The Pride Parade is for people to be able to be themselves, fat rolls and all. It's a celebration. Yeah, sometimes the parade may not be for kids but then again kids shouldn't probably be at all the summer college beach celebrations either where the same kinda stuff goes on.

On the other hand I saw the movie Wanted Sunday and I was stunned by
the number of children in the audience at a matinee. With parents.
There is more sex in the movies than they would see at a Pride parade.
And a lot less violence at a Pride parade.
On balance, I'd prefer the children be at a Pride parade.

LOL, are u kidding me, u comparing a real life actual event to a movie where a man fly thru glass 60 stories in the air shooting and a train falling off a mountain and people survive!! I guess Bugs Bunny real too and Roosters do talk like Fog horn leghorn!!

Not kidding. You forgot the sex scenes in the movie. Is it preferable to teach a child violence than tolerance?
At a Pride parade, one, a child is not going to see everything unless they have a front row seat. Second children aren't interested in seeing everything. (I don't have children but have been around enough of them to observe that if they are uncomfortable they won't watch.)
It is also easier to address questions and concerns from a child at a parade than in a movie theater.
Animated violence I think is separate to a child because it is not real life. That alone I think makes it safer for children. A live action movie is harder to place in the same category or context as a cartoon I would think.
And yes, the movie had more sex than you would see at a Pride parade. Semi-nude is not sex and is readily viewable at a beach.
I don't see anyone complaining about taking children to a beach because people will be scantily clad in attire some will disapprove of.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I find Hooters objectionable, but I simply don't go there. I think the same could apply to a gay parade.

I also think that instead of shielding the youngun's eyes, a parent might try to explain to the kids what is going on so that the kids don't think that being gay is bad.

There is nothing wrong with what goes on at a gay parade, to each his own I think.

I co-sign to that. nod

I hear you. The parade itself is a fine thing. If it merely shocked people, then I couldn't care less. I only raise the question because peoples' rights are actually being denied, and I have a feeling the images from the parade are the kind of things they picture when they vote against gay marriage of commit some other hateful act. But maybe you're right and they'd feel that way no matter what images are broadcast.

But I am not suggesting that the parade not happen or that it is bad. It's one of those basic rights in and of itself. The right to express yourself however you want. Sacrificing one freedom for another doesn't make any sense.

let me remind you that it is those people whose pictures that are printed that you fear cast a bad image that were the first to stand up and demand the rights we have now. while those people who critize them were to afaird to do anything. now that we have the rights they want the people that built the table they sit out to leave the dinner the party.

nod Historically, it's been the drag queens and dieseldykes and other "abnormal" types that were pushing for our rights and equal treatment, while the so-called respectable folk were just letting themselves be arrested and harassed. Now that the playing field's a bit more even, certain members of the queer community who are more heteronormative than others want to be the only ones the public sees.

It may be true that the wilder aspects of Pride make some outside the community uncomfortable, or even influence their perceptions of us, but you know what? Fuck 'em. Someone who was going to vote against marriage laws or adoption laws is still going to think fags are like, ew!yucky, even if they manage to only see sharply-dressed couples who live in suburbia and do nothing more extreme than buy brown bread instead of white.

Someone's insane if they're comfortable with their body? confuse

Even in places where public nudity is a crime or a misdemeanor, insanity would hardly be the cause of someone breaking said law.

Well i attended a parade recently and they're were families who shielded their kids eyes from some floats and etc!! There was a family who got stuck on a red light and had to witness 4 passing floats and they shielded their eyes!! I mean when u have bikini wearing almost to the point naked men, leather men walking down street with a man in a dog leash and wedding dress. There was this one lady who was so fat with fat rolls t oa point where she actually look like resbushus for NORBIT and had the nerve to wear bikinis you couldn't seee looking naked from all that fat swallowing it up!! I mean we had to speak spanish to my people cause we didn't want anyone to hear or know what we were saying!! It was one helluva experience!! I mean you couldn't do that in public so in my opinion why would you broadcast it in a parade knowing that everyone including kids will see that!! Then i blame mama and daddy to cause they should have known it was not a disney parade either!! This thread not flaming anyone!! Just an experience we experienced for the first time and someone brought this point up!!

i think u take little kids anywhere not really appropriate for them u run the risk of them being exposed to shit they shouldnt see. be it gay straight or whatever kinda functions u attend.

but that is all up to the parents wut is acceptable for their kids.in my opinon

No,I don´t find them offensive, there can´t be enough of them, and I´m speaking as a heterosexual here. Sometimes I´m quite surprised how uptight and narrowminded some people can be when it comes to homosexuality or heterosexuality in public places.

A lot of people seem to be on a mission to liberate places like Iran and Afghanistan , they ´re very quickto label them as "countries in the middle age" ,and maybe they´re right, yet it´s sometimes these very same people who have a problem with nudity, kissing in public, sex in general or homosexuality.

The sooner kids understand that homosexuality is totally normal and not some anomality, the better for whole societies in general, everywhere.
