I read a study that said Spanish was inaudible and incomprehensible to gays. I never believed it until now.

The question is, is sex offensive for kids?
The gay-parades tends to be to much about sex and less about love.

i'm sorry i've attended many gay prides in my life, up to 6 a year some years. and i have yet to see full on public sex at one. maybe some making out but all sex is kept out of the public eye. and i've been to LA, SD, LB, PS, LV and SF prides. so please enlighten me to which prides have sex in them because I'm so there!

What i ment was nudity, never seen an american gay-pride, but in europe theres a lot of nudity, didnt say if it was a good or bad thing though( i would rather expose my children to nudity the violence, havent made up my mind if its good or bad to expose children to sex and nudity)

Nudity DOES NOT EQUAL sex. case in point. i have a friend, where i go over to his house we watch some tv, get naked, and fall asleep. than i wake up put on my clothes and go to work. no sex.

falloff maybe not sexual, but strange nonetheless.

Where does getting naked fall in the evening? What I mean is, is it when the evening is getting crazy, or are you guys just nudists?

we both like to sleep in the nude, and it's nice to be able to sleep next to someone.

No slut Pride.

Sounds like you are referring to either Folsom Street Fair or Dore Alley.
Both are definitely adult only.

I'm not saying what anyone should or shouldn't do. A parade is meant to be festive & over the top. A bunch of gay people walking reservedly down the street in their work clothes wouldn't be much fun, certainly.

But I still think that it may confirm some folks' worst fears.

Which is based on nothing really. I think that once we conform to those fears then we are back to square one.

cause that's what sells the paper. and whether you agree or not that's what people want to see at the Pride Parde. it would be utterly boring if you had to sit through 3 hours of normal looking people walking by.

Absolutely, and no parade represents people as they are in normal life, carrying dragons, juggling, riding floats, horses, waving constantly lol

But the Pride Parade's theme is based in sexuality as much as culture. A Porn Parade might garner just as much shock.

Or any of the multitude of Parades that happen at Mardi Gras. It not the floats that are offensive it's the people taking off their clothes to get said trinket being offered from the float.

Most pride parades are, to me, about as provocative as a music video. If you replaced all the participants with hot chicks in bikinis, it would barely raise an eyebrow.

There seems to be an attitude among some people who think they're comfortable with gay people that they're fine with gay people as long as they don't have to think about our icky sex lives. But we don't just want the right to love someone; our sex lives are part of the deal too. I know some people who love the gays as long as we're making them laugh but as soon as the messiness of our whole personaes enters the picture, it makes them uncomfortable. Personally, I think that's more homophobic than what the religious right believes. At least I know where I stand with them. The blurry distinctions that some so-called progressives make are more offensive to me. (I'm not directing this at anybody here; I just thought it worth noting in the context of this conversation.)

Keep in mind that not all gay-people wants to be sexuall-sluts, and on the other hand not all heteros wants to be cassual(like P for example)

True, I don't think it's necessarily the parades themselves. If this woman at the beginning of the thread was at the parade, she probably didn't have a problem with it. But like Mardi Gras, it can become a bit "adult," and quickly! They're public events, but they are not always family friendly.

Your comment about Hooters is well founded. They're offering themselves as a family restaurant, but they're basically a strip club. I wouldn't bring my daughter there.

The issue I have with the Pride Parade is that it's a little like having Hooters girls at a women's rights parade. I wouldn't care personally, but don't know if it helps the cause.

it's called Mardi Gras or Spring Break or eevnt here called Over the Line and countless of other events that happen all across the world that go unnoticed or ignored or cheered on.

I do understand. The parade is about being free, about being open. Perhaps it is good because it puts the issue in peoples' minds, faces, and in a fun way.

I only raise the question out of honesty.

I'm not going to answer the question or get involved in whatever the discussion is because I'm sure it'll be moved to P&R, but I just wanted to say that I went to my first Pride parade this weekend. LOVED IT! It felt good. smile

my ex is half mexican and speaks fluent spanish and looks totally white. he would chuckle when we'd go into places around town and people would make comments in spanish about us. if he was really feeling playful he'd say something to them in spanish and the look on their faces were priceless.

My oldest brother does that. He's black, but knows Spanish fluently.

I wouldn't care if it offends kids or not, they can't vote or hold down jobs so they're opinions shouldn't even count. They should just shut up and keep they're mouths shut!
