Well i attended a parade recently and they're were families who shielded their kids eyes from some floats and etc!! There was a family who got stuck on a red light and had to witness 4 passing floats and they shielded their eyes!! I mean when u have bikini wearing almost to the point naked men, leather men walking down street with a man in a dog leash and wedding dress. There was this one lady who was so fat with fat rolls t oa point where she actually look like resbushus for NORBIT and had the nerve to wear bikinis you couldn't seee looking naked from all that fat swallowing it up!! I mean we had to speak spanish to my people cause we didn't want anyone to hear or know what we were saying!! It was one helluva experience!! I mean you couldn't do that in public so in my opinion why would you broadcast it in a parade knowing that everyone including kids will see that!! Then i blame mama and daddy to cause they should have known it was not a disney parade either!! This thread not flaming anyone!! Just an experience we experienced for the first time and someone brought this point up!!

I believe the better point would be that if you're trying to shield your kids from something as awesome as Gay Pride then maybe that would be a day well spent at home...

Seriously, what promotes a greater challenge? Banning Gay Pride events or keeping the kids home that day?

I think that if we consider ourselves Parents & Adults then we should also have enough COMMON SENSE to figure this one out in the living room...

there's nothing wrong with the expression of sexuality or naked bodies. if parents disagree, they should keep their kids at home.

i have more trouble with violence on tv.

I haven't been to the parade in years but from my memory I can't think of anything that would be inappropriate for children... If anything, it's one of the most appropriate parts of the pride festival to bring them to.

On the other hand I saw the movie Wanted Sunday and I was stunned by
the number of children in the audience at a matinee. With parents.
There is more sex in the movies than they would see at a Pride parade.
And a lot less violence at a Pride parade.
On balance, I'd prefer the children be at a Pride parade.

I find Hooters objectionable, but I simply don't go there. I think the same could apply to a gay parade.

I also think that instead of shielding the youngun's eyes, a parent might try to explain to the kids what is going on so that the kids don't think that being gay is bad.

There is nothing wrong with what goes on at a gay parade, to each his own I think.

I read a study that said Spanish was inaudible and incomprehensible to gays. I never believed it until now.

i don't see why! i mean kids have nickelodeon! everything i pass that channel i always hear "the channel were kids rule!!" or "KIDS ROCK!". which is just saying Kid Pride! I think people should be proud of whatever they want to be proud of.

I don't find it offensive, however, I wonder sometimes if it is very good for the image of gays.

Some people have no exposure to gay people (that they know of, of course! their brother is just not coming out to them!) except for the clips of the Pride Parade that they see on TV. I have a feeling this is what shapes their opinions (and votes) in a way that is not accurate or fair to the vast majority of gay people.

Again I am not offended, I see it as fun. But it sort of confirms the very worst stereotypes that people believe about gays, and it's such a widely publicized event, is it a good thing for the cause?

No, it's not. The only people offended by Pride parades arne't worth commenting on.

That's because all you see on the news are the provocative images. You don't see the PFLAG marchers (the parents always make me tear up), the political organizations, the church groups, etc. It's always the leather dykes and twinks in speedos and glitter. (Which, there's as important a part of the parade as any, but that's all you ever seem to see on tv.)

But the Pride Parade's theme is based in sexuality as much as culture. A Porn Parade might garner just as much shock.

Why would they be? There are tons and tons of more 'offensive' material on the tv and in other medias. If Mr. and Mrs. Religious Nutcase don't want their kids to see gay people, then they should stay at home,
