So put earmuffs under you baseball cap, and wear your collar up in back... problem solved...  I generally wear a burka, so I don't need to worry...maybe that's why the hat gets looks! It does look like enough sun protection.... 
But yes, if you stick a big-brimmed hat on top of it, I can see maybe why you'd have some strange looks...
