Why is Microsoft more evil than open source freaks? Can hackers tell me why they shouldn't fuck off and die? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

it really doesn't matter whether it's Microsoft or open source. The biggest hacks this year weren't even targeted on operation systems, they target applications now. Microsoft (Office and the like) are still main targets because they have a broad install base and thus provide a nice platform for to spread malware and yes there are still vulnerabilities in those, simply because applications are programmed by humans and humans are always the weakest link.
Anyway, hacking is big business. Criminals pay big bucks for personal information (SSN, CCN, ...) and computing resources (botnets). The real trend is targeted attacks where targets are sought out, infected with custom-made malware and where critical information is obtained. In these attacks, anti-virus and other 'standard' security software is clueless ... damn .... you tricked me

regarding your question ... I'm not sure. It's not because hackers would go away that the vulnerabilities and risks go away. A breach in the levy is just a hole until the water rises to high, right ? Companies (and individuals) should pay more attention to their security posture
