i wish they had a non-violent version of wolfenstein or doom. i love 1st person games where you're poking around in a castle or a labyrinth or something. i just find having to shoot at things to be very pesky. it interrupts my snooping.

Did you ever play 7th Guest or 11th hour? Those were a lot of fun and creepy! The premise was similar for both. You'd be given a clue...usually something you have to find and that would lead you to a puzzle you would have to solve and move on to the next. This would lead you to a conclusion where you almost have to remember a lot of what you went though to finish the game.

Then there was myst, completely non violent, but heavy on the puzzles.

One of my favorites combined the best of 1st person shooters, puzzles and RPG. It was called System Shock2. Not a lot of battle, mostly trying to figure out how to solve the levels/puzzles while at the same time trying to aviod being shot sometimes. If you had the skills (in the game), you could hack some computers and turn off things that shoot at you as well.

They have straight adventure games with no violence, but they're generally not as good as the killing kind. And, paradoxically, they don't allow you to explore your surroundings nearly as much as the killing/role playing games.

Actually, AOE started my RTS craze. nod

I'm not a avid gamer, and just don't understand first person shooters--they're so... boring to me.

But RTS--now those you get to play God--and who doesn't want to kill indiscriminately--or selectively while building empire? lol

The Republicans in the USA do it in real life. At least in RTS, a bad game doesn't kill 150 thousand innocent Iraqis shrug
