I'm still waiting (in orgnote) for a reply from the mod who moved this thread here what the hell it's doing in site discussion. Can some other mods give me their view on this? I know you're not supposed to second guess another mod but I'm asking if you can see the reasoning behind this being moved.

That's because those that believe that are ignorant, lol and will believe anything the press throws to them. lol
I think it has more to do with racism and that these people would think that whether the media had any say in it or not.

But if I say anymore, this thread will be moved yet again.

So it seems, but honestly, people believe what they want to believe about other races outside of their own, even if they know that half the stereptypical BS is not true. Some people want to believe it just to keep themselves on a level they believe exists, when in fact, they are no different than any other human being.

That statment your friends made about "Blacks being lazy and stupid" falls on ignorance and miseducation. I honestly had to laugh at that one. If they said that to me, I would have to prove tham wrong. I would have to remind them that my ancestors, who were African-Americans, built this country with ther blood, sweat and without compensation under the most extreme and horrific conditions.. Surely, that doesn't sound like they were lazy and neither are their descendants.

The next time they make a comment like that you can tell them that there are African-American Professors, Physicians, Inventors, Pilots, Teachers, Entrepeneurs, CEOs and the like. As a matter of fact, being African-American myself, two of my childhood friends are doing well and worked hard to get where they are--one is a child psychiatrist who married a neurosurgeon and is living in a million dollar home with a lake and 3 children in Greenwich, Connecticut; her sister is a School Principal, my niece just graduated last year and received her BA in 3 years with honors.

I can go on...but "lazy?" ...naaaahhhh...."stupid"...not hardly, so see, people believe what they want and whatever makes them feel mentally "comfortable"., even if they know all that stereotypical hogwash is not true. What can I say, it's the way of the "ugly" world we live in.

i think some people are just born assholes. it's a genetic trait, like some people believe there's a gay gene. well, i think there's an asshole gene and some people are just doomed from the womb. lol

i think other people have racist thoughts deeply embedded in them from an early age, and it's difficult if not impossible to shake what's been programmed in them so intensely throughout their upbringings.

then, i think the massage majority of people are just ignorant. not stupid necessarily, but just IGNORANT. ignorance means a lack of knowledge, and we're all ignorant about something. i think a lot of people are ignorant about issues of race because they've been brought up in such isolated environments, the only people they see who aren't like them are people on tv and movies. now hopefully, these ignorant isolated people will one day have an opportunity to swim in a bigger fishbowl and have personal experiences which will broaden their world views and show them that the world is a bigger place than what they see on tv. some people go through life never ever getting that chance.

i believe in that saying, "become the change you want to see in the world". if i see someone acting out of ignorance and i believe they're a sincere, well-meaning person, i think there is a responsibility to inform and educate them in whatever respectful way i can, so i can help them better themselves. and i would want the same done for me. and i've been fortunate in that i've had a lot of "gentle lessons" along the way in my life. and a few "not so gentle lessons" as well, lol. but that's okay. i learned from those too.

i guess my point is, we're never going to change the assholes and the deeply-programmed types, but there are a bunch of people who just don't know any better, and all it takes is just a little bit of a reality check for a lot of folks to say "oh wow, i never thought of it that way. i didn't know. i feel like a jerk. thanks!" lol - it's just a matter if we want to take that initiative, i suppose. it can be tiring after a while, but isn't it worth it?

i dunno. i guess that's my rant for the day. lol

I ask you respectfully to take any discussion of racism to P&R, this thread was not meant to be a discussion of that. Thanks. smile

And thanks to Anxiety, I think the misunderstanding is being cleared up because that's what it was it seems.

we need a new orger named Ray Schism to post completely inoffensive, benign threads about balloons and kittens, just so we can see if they end up in P&R since they were the handiwork of RaySchism.

that was really dumb. there's a point in there somewhere, though. i think. boxed

I have never encountered racism on the Org and it surprises me that anyone who could be into Prince would also be racist. However racism takes many forms.

I have an acquaintance (he's a friend of my sister-in-laws) who sends me racist emails sometimes - I got one today in fact. He's a Christian and most of his emails are borderline racist, but nearly all are aimed against Muslims in some way or another, i.e. attacking their faith or supporting the war.

Some people may not take that as being racist but I do. I do support all our troops, but I don't think that we have to slaughter all Muslims in order to win against Al Qaeda or the Taliban and that's the tone that many of his emails take.

I just delete all his emails and never forward them on, but it does interest me to find out what some people are circulating and the type of misinformation that is being propogated, so I haven't told him to stop. It often offends me though.

In my day-to-day life here in Britain I'm more likely to encounter racist comments against non-black people (the Polish, Romanians etc) because of the fear a lot of people have here about our borders being open to Eastern Europeans and the fear that we are losing our culture and our jobs. There has been a dramatic shift in this country from racism against colour to racism against other Europeans. That's been my recent experience anyway.

the thing that always gets me is when someone goes on a tirade about the evils of racism and then ten minutes later they're making fun of middle eastern cab drivers, as if that's somehow okay. and when i try to point that out, i get lectured on how politically correct the world is becoming. nuts

nod

It's like they're not racist if they aren't directing their comments against black people. I encounter that a lot. I've heard racist rants against Indians from people who don't have a clue about my ancestry. Sometimes I then tell them, sometimes I don't.

A little story (possibly a silly one to relate on this thread but I'll type it anyway)... although this is nothing to do with racism, it's got do do with prejudice, and probably the only time I've ever been truly gobsmacked - I was once on holiday, minding my own business and choosing food from a buffet, and this guy who had made a point of telling everyone he was a farmer suddenly started shouting at me for not eating meat! He told me that "people like you are putting decent farmers out of business; you're disgusting!" He was furious, really ranting, and I couldn't believe his venom against me. It's so difficult to deal with any type of prejudice when you know there's nothing you can say or do to change someone's opinion.
