The Yankees (who I despise, but will not deny their talent because of it) are hated by non-Yankee fans for the same reasons. Although I don't like major league baseball in general anymore.

Sure, there might be (and sometimes is) more than one reason these teams are hated by non-fans, but the BIGGEST factor is that they're successful, that exacerbates the intense dislike.

I HATE that about the Yankees, 49ers, and yes, the Celtics.

The Celtics kicked the Lakers' butts all the time late '50s and late '60s when they met in the Finals. Up until the Magic Johnson era, the Lakers never beat the Celtics for a title. I hated Danny Ainge the most (til he was traded to the Phoenix Suns in the '90s). I feared Larry Bird. I don't hate the Celtics NOW (Red Auerbach is a different story), but that could change.

It's very simple: a dynasty keeps a non-fans team from winning anything, and they get sick of that dynasty winning all the time. The ones who aren't honest will disagree.
