In a situation like that tho all you really could do is call an ambulance and make sure other drivers move out of the way. You wouldn't want to risk moving the person as you could risk hurting them more, especially if they have spinal injuries.

But some of the people just walking by pretending not to notice is pretty sad

ok ... I've seen someone die at my feet and I didn't do anything to help her either, but we didn't know what was happening. She fell to the ground and died right there ... This is an accident, even in panic mode you oughta do something.

Depends. If it's someone I don't like, then tough shit. For a friend, I would do anything.

Police were on scene pretty quick so I'd say someone there responded immediately.

It is upsetting that no one actually ran over to see if he was still alive though, or to comfort (talk to) him if he was conscious until help came.

I had the shivers watching that.

I saw this, and that video is slowed down, people were on their phones calling for help immediately. A woman that was at the scene said so. And when a old man is hit that hard and bleeding, you don't want to move them because you can put them at further risk or paralyze them.

But sadly the man is paralyzed from the neck down, and his son was on the news bawling. The son thanked all the people that stopped traffic and helped with a description of the cars to the police.

This was covered in another thread.

The police JUST HAPPENED to be en route to another call.

YES, people did call 911.

NO, they did not bother to rush to his side, even if it was to just ward off traffic.

I would hate to be surrounded by neighbors like those.

Ok, so I was right. A response was done immediately - whether the police were in the area responding to another call or not is not the point. The point is that someone called 911 right away. A person (or people) responded immediately - the right thing to do in a situation like this.

But I would have gone over to him to see if he was alive and try to comfort him in some way if he was.

I wonder if the response in that regard would have been different if it was a child and not an adult male...

Shouldn't matter. ESPECIALLY being as how it was an elderly man that was struck.

I saw a collapsed person in the road once and couldn't believe people were driving by, I pulled over and ran straight over to this man.
Turned out he was very very drunk but I dragged his behind onto the grass verge and made sure he knew where he was and what he was doing.
Later people told me how stupid I had been, he could of done anything. If I ever see anything similar again I will still help out regardless.

Someone should of gone over to talk to the old guy even if it was just to tell him an ambulance was on the way then just stay with him as comfort until help arrived eek
oh mama I wish I could resist ...
