I should be happy that I have the day off but... my hometown, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is having a major flood. Many of my friends and co-workers live and work in that area. I'm not sure why Mother Nature hates Iowa so much now but between the floods and the tornadoes, we must have done something to tick her off. Here's a video of what's going on. This video is from yesterday. It has stormed since and the river is even higher.
Almost all of the bridges are covered. The only one that isn't is the I-380 bridge which is the only way to get over the river now. Even though my work is not in the flooding area, management decided to close because so many people had no way to get to work today. I got the message too late and went to work. I noticed there were shit houses in our parking lot as the city has been asked to limit it's water usage to drinking water only. I'm trying to not get too emotional about all of this and just be thankful that no one has been hurt so far. The areas that are damaged the most are the areas I grew up in. Downtown Cedar Rapids owns the first part of my childhood. I have so many wonderful memories. And it's not just Cedar Rapids. Iowa City, Coralville, Waterloo & Cedar Falls are all going through this now. Please keep Iowa in your thoughts. And if you know any reversal rain dances, by all means, start dancing. Shake it til ya make it

I was very sad to see the railroad bridge in Waterloo get destroyed. That's a part of my childhood and it was weird to see it go like that. Iowa has been hit hard in the past few weeks, with the destruction of the tornadoes in Parkersburg and the western part of the state and then the floods. Take care, Julie; hope you and your loved ones all get through this unscathed.

I just found out that my grandma's house is flooded. Thankfully, my grandma has been evacuated since Wednesday. I wish I could see how things are holding up in her neighborhood but I don't want to be another rubbernecker slowing down traffic.
And I-380 is going to be closing at 6pm tonight. Some people are having to take detours that are adding an extra 2 hours on to their trip. What a nightmare! The river has crested though so hopefully things are heading in the right direction. Iowa City & Coralville will most likely get it worse than us! Yikes! Shake it til ya make it

That is awful...Sorry about your grandma's house. I hope she will be able to get back in it as soon as possible.

not sure but it is crazy, have a feeling we will hear pat robertson (on ACC) say that because they have homosexuals there ( his words gays and lesbians) and that God is punishing them because of this and Aids etc etc. shameful to think like that.....each to his/her own
