Debate Etiquette

***

1) KNOW YOUR HISTORY: If you spout of at the mouth without any backup (in the form of documentation, historical dates, facts [and yes we know that not all history books reflect the “facts”], events, etc. Then please keep your comments to a minimum.

2) GOVERNMENT ISSUES: Quoting your husband, brother, sister, wife or son who is in the military is no basis for “factual content” and if they have any inside information we’ll dutifully report you to the proper government agency for compromising classified information. We all know that all of us are on a “need to know basis” when it comes to government. Our media sources are vast and contradictory. Try to sort it out and listen without prejudice to others who are not *FROM* America. Their viewpoint can be biased depending on their countries attitudes and their own personal experiences, but it adds flavor to the pot. If you’re offering viewpoints and you’re foreign to the US, refrain from beating us over the head regarding our sometimes-imperceptive leaders. We get the joke. We live here.

3) IF THE DEBATE IS BASED UPON EXPERIENCE: You cannot undermine someone else’s. You can question, you can ask, but you cannot attack their beliefs, experience, and viewpoint as invalid just because you can’t make sense of it. Besides, they usually can’t comprehend how stupid they are, their ignorance prevents it! heh heh , sorry. innocent

4) MUSIC: If you’re stating that Michael Jackson is WAAAY better than Prince, go to a MJ site or keep your fat trap shut. Otherwise, we can discuss the merits of Prince’s genius, his sometimes incomprehensible lyrics and the state of the union.

5) MODERATORS: “Tough titty said the Kitty but the milk is still good”. Abide by the rules or GET OUT. “It’s a free country, I can say what I want” you say --- not to sound like Prince, but how *FREE* are we anyway? Nevermind it doesn’t matter. Dictatorship rules here, get over it.

6) RELIGION: Debate doctrine, not faith. In plain and simple English.

Here is a lesson that I learned recently:

Never debate with someone as stupid as RaneStarr... they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

You should add that you should behave like good little boys and girls and calling someone a liar or stupid just because what they are saying is over your head is just plain rude.
sorry if that was over your head...jump up and try to catch the point next time.

Addendum...don't reply without addressing the key points of the poster. If you're just going to repeat your position without doing any actual debating, then you might as well just flap your jaw at a brick wall.
