are you FREAKING kidding me?????

after everything we've been through this past week and a half with my daughter and her injury, this evening my son broke his thumb! he was playing basketball and fell on his hand, snapped his thumb in two. poor lil guy.... not to much pain yet, he's in a temp cast/split thing until we see the ortho doctor for a permanent cast (6-8 weeks!!!). there obviously will be no swimming, video games, or basketball for him this summer

ya know, just a few days ago i was trying to explain to a dear friend that they had NO idea how crazy my life is... this is an extreme example of course, usually both of my kids are not in the hospital like this so close together, but i do seem to be in a crazy cycle of shit right now

im telling you i need a fucking vacation!!!!!

you take your attention off them for any length of time and they seem to think "now lets find something i can injure myself with".

Y'know, all these problems could be solved if you just plunked your kids in front of a video game like everyone else.

Seriously, when kids are active, they get hurt! You can't protect them from everything - and meanwhile, they're having positive life experiences. (Yes, injuries are positive - it means they're really living and learning.) There wasn't a kid in my family who didn't spend part of at least one summer banged up from hitting a diving board, spraining a wrist doing handsprings in the backyard, breaking a toe doing pirouettes on shag carpeting, jamming a thumb playing basketball (I lost a lot of golf one summer from that one), etc.

Sure, it sucks that he won't be able to swim this summer. But kids who like to do things will always find a way to be involved - even if they're injured. Think of it as a challenge to his creativity.

Jake's about to be a man, he'll be fine. Sucks that he can't do a lot of those things you mentioned, but chicks don't like whiners so he'd better suck it up!

i let the kids go to the zoo today, our family had a trip planned and jake said he could go - i didnt want him to go, but as 'buff man' has mentioned - he is being a big boy and 'sucking it up' actually, i havent heard him really complain yet... had it not been for the fact that his thumb was so swollen, i wouldnt have even taken him to the hospital to begin with. anyway, the zoo trip went well, bri was in a wheelchair kinda thing to stay off her leg and jake was in his sling. i took a picture to share with you guys - i have decided that i am going to turn it into our christmas card this year (hey i gotta find the humor in this shit!)
