So, now that we've collectively had our fun with the GOTH I'd like to ask...

Who has that much time to get all made up like that on a daily basis? I mean seriously... Some of those more "attractive" Goths look stunning but where do you find the frikkin time???? Also how much does all that shit cost eek and to follow up on that what job do you have that a) allows you to look Goth and b) pays you that much scratch to afford all the make-up, chains, leather, amulets, big-ass boots, and shit????

Anyone care to 'splain?

any shit store in the mall can make it very affordable

not your image here, but the better ones look like they use an airbrush to apply their makeup

I don't get it.

This thread was not supposed to last this long, seriously. It was an afterthought and hastily thought out thread. It wasn't even executed well.

I mean, I've slaved the hell away at the Michelen man vs. Doughboy thread, and this one is smoking that one. neutral

deep down inside, despite what people may say, they want to have raw, unadulterated, monkey sex with goths...it's only natural this thread did well..

Maybe you're looking at it from a straight white male point of view. Many women spend as much money and have as many specialized clothes and accessories, not to mention jewelry, how much they spend on haircare, etc. They just go for a different aesthetic. We all get dressed every morning, some of us spend more time on it than others.

When I was 21 I took a sabatical from working and spent probably 2-3 hours each day putting myself together, from outfit, hair, make-up, etc. I was never goth, but I had my own thing goin' on... I still spend an hour each morning picking out an outfit, doing my make up, all that. And when I know I'm doing something fun for an evening out, it can take me much longer. Creating the look itself is a hobby, and a creative one at that.

The point is that not everyone thinks this. They like it, that's a good enough reason.

I don't think all of them. The few I see once in a while seem very shy, timid so I kinda guess that they are insecure and feel more comfortable, stronger with this clothing and look and surrounded by people who share their "taste".

I don't know how Goth music sounds like, I only know new wave but think it's not the same.

OK, seriously. Almost everyone, no matter what style they may have wants attention. I don't see this as any different. And I see nothing wrong with wanting attention.

I really used to like going to goth clubs.
Conventional clubs had (I haven't been clubbing in 10 years or so now boxed ) a very limited and narrow scope for aesthetics - either you looked "hot" and tanned and skinny, or you didn't get a look in. At the goth clubs, you could be compelling in your own way, only limited by your creativity. I didn't have black hair or black lips, but they danced with me anyway tease

When I lived in Germany goth clubs were all the rage. I used to love love love love love them. There's a certain beauty with the way the kids move on the dancefloor.

Tampa has 2 two long running goth clubs, and I used to love those too. But after I did a short tour in Haiti, I came back with a different perspective. There I was at my first night back from a goth club looking around at all this pale, pretty, ridiculously stylish kids pretending to be so emotionally in pain on the dancefloor---OMG, they were really trying to just FEEL the darkness lol, and I was thinking the entire time, "Wanna see pain? Let me take you to one of the slums in Port 'o Prince, where kids are taking dumps in cesspools in the street--I'll show you pain. lol "
Coupled with the fact that there's really no reason to feel too depressed in Florida, I cooled off to the Goth thing. I still like the 'look' to some extent when it's not overdone--I just find some of the kids I see like this amusing now. lol .

ALso most of the Goths I know are like Highschool nerds that are basically trying to be cool in their own way and most of the time they are no different from any social group, u still have ure bitchiness and so on.

IMO I dont think Goths are what I would call non-conformist lol I mean they all conform to the same style really

and yes all the boots and things do cost a fair bit of money. The makeup not so much but some of the corsettes and things can be pretty expensive if u want the newer style stuff, but at the same time u can find bargains in second hand stores...if u want to buy just anything basically black lol

Oh, please.

The reason they GET treated so badly is because of their bitchiness and willingness to judge anyone who isn't conforming to the anti-conformist movement like them.

Believe me, I'm speaking from experience here. I watched all my friends turn into dark, depressing, bitchy excuses for goths while I stayed who I was.

They all thought they were SO original and would never listen to a word I had to say if it wasn't "My Chemical Romance!" "The Used!" "Chucks Sneakers!" "Vans!" "Horror movies!" "The Night Before Christmas!" "Marilyn Manson!" "Panic at the Disco!".

I basically didn't exist anymore because I wasn't wearing black, dying my hair 700 different colours each week, wearing six tonnes of eyeliner, and "singing" depressing lyrics at the top of my lungs while everyone else goes "What the fuck are they on?!"

My daughter is going through this right now thanks she is in no way bitchy as you put it(she is only 12), or on anything for that matter. Its an expression of how she feels on the inside and she has already seen a theropist for this. We have discussed this freely and she is in no way hurting a person by dressing up like this.My daughter dont even listen to ANY of those bands mentioned above what you have said. They have their reasons for dresisng that way, it in no way indicates they are evil or devil worshippers either like some tend to believe.

Im speaking from experience also,so no need to get snippy with me,thanks! I know people who dres like this only for parties they attend some even dress liek this day in and out you may think they arent nice but SOME are nice! You got a bad impresstion by one or some is all.

Edited to say: I watch horror movies all my life and that didnt turn me bitchy or depressed or anything for that matter. YES I say what I feel but I generally I cause NO harm to others. I like all types of music even I went through this when I was younger( the goth stage) but I grew out of it!

I totally agree with you! I just shake my head at a good majority of the newbies that are entering the goth scene. They obviously don't know the history and walk around wearing Korn t-shirts. disbelief They've never heard of Christian Death or even the early Bauhaus stuff. Shame.

But I found some goth music and it seems they have different genres in Goth, what you said Death metal and Techno, some nice some not. This was actually nice:

http://nl.youtube.com/wat...re=related

The rest I looked up (about 4 clips) was fucked up, a guy dressed up as a girl acting crazy, some nude girls, some scary Germans and some S&M clip so I still don't know what Goth is exactly shrug
I do know I'm not a fan of it.
