Matt, explain to me the benefits of an unlocked phone. I've never quite understood.

the unlocked iPhone enables you to use it with any simcard/provider, without have to start on a new contract. The iPhones will keep its typycal iPhone-features, the only thing you will have to keep in mind is that you will have to unlock it everytime after you have done a Firmware-update through iTunes. This update will automatically re-lock your iPhone, but thanks to the geeks in the online iPhone-communities you can download software for free after each update to unlock your iPhone!

The Firmware-updates maybe come once every 3 months or so.

You won't be able to unlock the 3G iPhone as you could the Edge one; you HAVE to activate the phone in-store now, so I dunno how Bangkok will play it, but there's no iTunes activation for the 3G model.

How much is the rate plan per month?

I think it's $30/month for data and $40/month for voice, so the whole deal runs you $70/month.

It's $60/month and the data is unlimited.

i want one, i use sprint now.

but i use yahoo/att for my internet and land line.
I hate the idea of having to pay more for a service i already pay for.
i can see paying the extra 30 bucks a month for the phone being serviced concidering i already have internet nad land line with att. but and additional 150-80 plus and additional 30 per phone confused. it seems wrong.

So, the worst-kept secret is out: iPhone 3G, July 11th, $199 with a two-year contract. Who's getting one?

At that price, I think I will. When the iPhone first came out, I decided to wait because I figured they'd eventually drop subsidize the price for people willing to sign a contract, and I also had some concerns about slow data speeds. Both of these issues will be resolved with the 3G version, and the new GPS feature is a nice bonus.

me, for my son 199.00 is not bad

u simply imagined this
So u lean over and give her a kiss
Here on earth, here on earth,

really?? I am pretty much sure that at some point some geeky wizzkid will have cracked the codes.....just a matter of time! We'll see!
EDGE itself has been totally obsolete to begin with.

nod I like that bitch too, but I'm partial to the Windows Mobile interface. I have had two HTC's and did really like them.

official specs haven't been released on the new iphone as far as I know, but the Xperia beats the current model with better camera, A-GPS, a real keypad, better screen resolution, expandable memory, replaceable battery, MMS, video calling, editable MS Office, stereo BT and NOT locked to any carrier.

hell yeah, gimmee mine now!

Just my two cents. thumbs up!

I was already looking at that phone. For me it's a toss-up between the Xperia (in black), the HTCs or the new Blackberry Thunder/Curve-replacement.

The issue is with the Sony's size, but it is a great device. I just hope WinMo isn't really sluggish on it due to them pushing it too far.

Nah, helio is a whole different company. The Ocean is going against The Sidekick, which I also looking at

Either way, a Helio, Blackberry, Sidekick, or IPhone is way better than this Metro PCS phone I have mad

Update: I think I did. woot! Not for $199 tho'--by the time I got there, the only models left were the white 16 GB iPhone's, which are $299. But that's okay, since white 16 GB was my favorite.

Had to wait in line for 4 hours, which wasn't that bad due to Seattle summer weather and friendly people. I've experienced much worse when buying concert tickets. And the activation was quick once the "concierge" let me through their virtual velvet rope and into the store.

I was there on opening day, people were applauding the opening of the store, it was crazy. I really love the phone and what can be done with it. The 3G speed is way better than any other phone internet connections I've had. I love the ability to find things as I'm out and about. It's amazing.

I'm not. I'm not crazy about cell phones like a lot of people. I have a pink Razr, and that's good enough for me. As long as it has a few cool features and I can talk on it, then I'm good.

Sony Ericsson is actually my favorite cell phone maker. I've had two Sony Ericsson phones -- my last one before I got the 3G iphone being the s710a. It was my favorite phone before I got the 3G.

I would get the Xperia and I actually was going to get it until they kept pushing it back (I keep hearing them flip flop btw 3Q '08 and 1Q '09). And I needed a phone right away since my old SE was approaching 3 years old and just plain stopped working from overall wear and tear. Plus, I don't have a PC, so Xperia became less appealing, but I have no doubt it's going to be a quality device.
