But now I see they have something on the market called Lactaid, which is supposed to be good for people with lactose intolerance. Gotta try it. I drink the lactaid milk. Great stuff. No problems with drinking it plain or with cereal. Also goat milk is good and doesn't give me lactose intolerance issues. Some people claim not to like the taste but I like it. Thanks! I will definitely try the lactaid milk, and the goat's milk too. Never tried goat's milk, but some folks say that cheese made out of goat's milk is very good. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I, too, have heard that drinking too much water can be just as bad as not drinking enough water. This part of the article really jumped out at me: "He also cited the case of a woman who developed swelling of the brain and died when she drank water continuously and very rapidly for several minutes as part of a contest." Yikes! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Yikes! I remember that contest...in fact I think someone in here had a thread about it when it happened...that's extreme though, of course, cuz none of us would normally drink water that fast. This is kinda gross, but once when I needed to have a barium enema done...the tons of liquid that they make you drink now to clean yourself out? I got so sick and instead of doing what it is supposed to, I barfed so much, I dehydrated and had to be put in the hospital for a day so they could rehydrate me...the doc then told me it was probably that I'm somehow allergic, or that the amount I had to drink was too copious, and that may have caused the barfing too. Anyway, I never did have the stupid medical procedure done...and I've been afraid to try it since....really silly on my part, I suppose, but I was so damn sick....I don't ever want to experience that again. So yes, "Yikes" is right!

I don't blame you for being hesitant to have a barium enema done, if it made you so sick that you wound up being hospitalized for dehydration. I wouldn't want to take the test either. I probably would ask my doctor if there was something else he could do instead. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

They'd put me in the hospital and watch over me every minute from the beginning to the end. I would do all the drinking right there... Maybe I could put booze in the bottles! I drink a lot of water after I've eaten something really salty. Other than that, I prefer tea or Coke Zero, something I can taste.
Be careful and don't drink too much water though. That is one the things that helped to kill my mother. She started drinking bottled water and started drinking it by the case. You would think no amount of water could hurt you but she had drank so much she became disoriented. The doctor said that all that water made her sodium too low and it never got back to normal. Wow, I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to your mom. How awful! Thanks. That was just one of the things that contributed. She had a lot of other things wrong with her. She was very overweight (350 lbs.), she had fluid in her legs and when they drained it, she lost 100 pounds (down to 250), she had heart trouble and diabetes also. I always tell people about drinking excessive amounts of water though because none of my family ever dreamed she was hurting herself when she was doing it. Once she became disoriented from the low sodium which was caused by drinking too much water, her brain would tell her she wasn't hungry and she wouldn't eat. We had to feed her like a baby because she had also forgotten how to eat. Since she wouldn't eat, she wouldn't get well no matter how hard they tried to raise her sodium. Andy is a four letter word.
