from the 12th til the 15th day after the first day of your menstruation you're the most fertile..

My son is a donor child and we had to check the follicle everytime before the insemination... we looked on the 12th day and most of the time inseminate the 13th day.. after three months I was pregnant! biggrin

don't know the science of things but my daughter was conceived the day before my cycle. That was after 2 years of no barrier fun. I think she was definitely meant to be.

You can't do it by the calendar. If you have an early or delayed ovulation (for whatever reason), you can really mess yourself up.

It's very hard to know unless you have a history of fertility signs to go on - taking your temperature, monitoring your cervical fluid (creamy or slick and stretchy like eggwhite=fertile, no cervical fluid=not fertile), charting your cervical position (high and soft=fertile, low and hard=not fertile). You might also have ovulatory pain or a "full" feeling in your pelvis - or just plain feel hornier.

Unless you know with certainty, do not simply assume that you are fertile in the middle of the month.

Morningsong, the child that was conceived "the day before your cycle" was probably actually conceived the day before you had ovulatory or implantation spotting, rather than your period.

But if you feel the ovulatory pain you are probably too late.. the egg is already on it's way...

Sperm can survive in a woman's reproductive system for days if there's a fertile medium (cervical fluid) for them to live in.

I know... but the egg can't... They didn't inseminate me if the follicle was on it's way..

I don't think s/he's asking with an eye toward getting pregnant. I think this is a birth control question.

In which case, better safe than sorry, don't you think?
