headaches

I've never been someone who got headaches. Like, ever. (Unless I had a really bad hangover. lol )
Until the last few months. I'd say I get them at least twice a week now at work. sigh

Is this something I should see a doctor for? Any ideas why I'm getting them now when I never used to? It's really annoying.

Have you noticed if you eat, smell, drink certain things that you get a headache? The reason I ask..my eldest daughter suffered migranes all thru highschool, we learned that peanut butter was one of her triggers.

I don't think they're migraines. My mother used to get migraines and they would completely incapacitate her. They'd hurt so bad it made her nauseous. All she could do was lay in a dark room and try not to move. These aren't that bad.
But still, I'm not used to it and I'm realizing today that I've been getting them fairly regularly for a month or more now.

But I'll have to think about that... maybe it's aspartame...

It could be computer-related or maybe you need new glasses. I was diagnosed with migraines a few years back and I have a few triggers, including hormones, like Mach said. I think it would be worth visiting your doc.

I get them more nowadays, too.

I'll go for a while without them, then I seem to constantly have them. But I also have more allergies. I wonder if they're connected, perhaps a sinus thing?

Start keeping track of your headaches.

When they start. How long they last. Where is the pain etc.

You may find you have triggers to your headaches.

Headaches are not necessarily indicative of a serious problem but they CAN be, so the more info you know about your headaches the better.

If they become more frequent or more severe, definately see your doctor.

Also, you can develop sinus and allergy problems even if you have no history of them, so don't rule them out.

As previously mentioned drink lots of water. Also, drink a couple of sports drinks (if you can stand them) like Gatorade.

Try a pain reliever w/ a sinus/allergy med. You may find that helps.

Hope you feel better soon.

Has anything changed at work?

Like you, I rarely get headaches. But about 3.5 months ago I had to move offices and now I get them 2-3 times a week because the other 5-8 people I share a room with never shut the fuck up! (I also broke out in a rash, and because my desk is now next to an old fireplace, it smells like soot all day and I feel like I can't breath clearly until I leave work. sigh)

Hope they go away soon!

Thanks for all the advice, folks!

I think I'm gonna start keeping a daily food/beverage/headache diary. And see what's what. I realized today it really has been going on for a couple of months and it's starting to get quite bothersome.

sigh

I have had migraine headaches for years. After tracking them and keeping a diary, I figured out they are hormonal, but haven't found any way to stop them. Then the last few months, I've developed a different kind of headache that happens on the other side of my head and feels completely different. My chiropractor today told me it is related to a neck injury I had last year, and tied to tension I carry in my neck.

It's quite a journey to figure these out. I'm going to have lab tests tomorrow and see if anything turns up. Then I might try a neurologist and/or go to a place called the Headache Clinic in my town.

Have you tried Imitrex or any of those other migraine meds? They really do work if you're getting a particularly bad one. Also, my headache specialist sent me to physical therapy for my migraines - I basically went for a massage several times a week and then they taught me how to do neck/shoulder stretches to help relieve the tension in my muscles.

excellent advice
armed with a headache diary, you and your doc can probably find out what is causing them for you and prevent them in future!

Well, I'm lucky in the sense that Excedrin Migraine does the trick and keeps me functional. (I get migraines every two weeks on the clock) I haven't found any other over-the-counter medicine that has any effect, and it's powerful enough I don't have to get a prescrption.

But these other headaches are worrisome. I've been having massage and acupressure once a week and doing exercises, but I could do more.

I have a migraine right now. bawl

Excedrin has massive amounts of caffeine in them. I had headaches everyday because I was I was taking excedrin so much that I was having caffeine withdrawals! I had to ween myself off of them per doc's orders. So be careful!

yeah, my mom is hooked on them, too. Plus it has whatever's in Tylenol, which can be bad for your liver, esp if you drink.

Well, I only take two Excedrin Migraines per month, at the most. That's not being hooked, is it? I'm pretty much a health freak and paranoid about taking any meds at all, so I try to keep it to a minimum. Also, I don't want to build up a resistance so that it stops working and I have to go on something worse. I also never drink coffee (except sometimes to medicate my migraine), almost never drink. Caffeine seems a lifesaver though when you need the blood vessels in your head to constrict. I also have low blood pressure. I sometimes can manage my migraines decently with the lesser amount of caffeine available in green tea.

I still wish I could find a way to make them stop altogether though.
