ok, I've already revealed this to Carrie, but here goes....



When I met Carrie in Miami and we went out to dinner, we dined at a place called Barton G.'s. A great little place with excellent food, ambience, service, etc. etc.

After the waiter made his presentations etc. etc., he asked us if we'd like any wine or drink. Carrie then asks for the Vino Prino Mamino Fru Fru wine circa the third age of man or some wierdness like that, and I was like

She ordered it so .... elegently. Dare I say it, posh (at least to my blue collar ears), so I felt kind of stupid and awkward following her up--- I mean, I know NOTHING about wine. NOTHING.

Sooooo, when the waiter asked me what I'd like, I pretended to not be interested in alchohol due to my long day and being a bit weary so I asked for a coffee drink (something I'm far more comfortable with), and the served me a fru fru coffee drink or some silliness like that. I could have just admitted to her that I didn't know anything about wine, but nooooo---I had to pretend like I wasn't interested in any and order coffee instead.

I guess my charms paid off cause Carrie and I have been dating for well over a year.






But anyways, how did you attempt to smooth over awkward situations in your life?

one strategy for smoothing over an awkward or embarassing situation is to create another situation, as a distraction.

like, knocking over a glass of water in the ensuing chaos of 'here, let me mop that up for you" people forget about the original situation and it often just goes away.

plus, sometimes you can cop a feel or two while dabbing at the water which might have spilled onto the other person's lap. just my 2c, hope this helps.
