Nevermind, I used a different link and got through. Is this whole venue general admission/standing? [Edited 6/5/08 12:00pm] So, that was a lot to read through! *Erykah is quite well known, but hasn't been in the picture for some time now, that's why she's playing a small club (1000 peeps). Paradiso is great! Erykah played NSJ two years ago, btw. *NSJ, which day(s) are you going? I'll be there on friday! Almost everything is indoor, standing. But practically all venues (there are at least 10 stages) have (limited) seating. *Rijswijk-R'dam is quite easy by train. Back might be a problem, cuz the trains stop around midnight. A taxi wouldn't be too expensive. *Amsterdam. Herman is the man with the inside info! *Holland isn't gonna win any soccer competition soon. Doesn't matter as long as the Germans don't either!

BlueZebra said: SCNDLS said: Beer AND chocolate! So, what's the deal with the food??? Oh, and how long is the commute from Rijswijk to Rotterdam? [Edited 5/29/08 16:26pm] yes ! very. There's almost no restaurants open during lunchtime because most offices have a on-site restaurant or everybody brings in their bread with cheese. They drink buttermilk like it's water and this is a picture from a Dutch restaurant :
a true story : one of our salespersons had a sales lunch with a Dutch customers. You gotta know we always have the customer choose the restaurant so usually (here in Belgium) the bill will go anywhere between $100 and $200. With this customer, the bill was exactly $12 Come to Belgium, home of the dick-shaped artisanal chocolate and, oh....you don't want us to start cracking jokes about Belgians here now do you? There are books writen about that, ya know?

lalalailoveu said: You MUST visit the Supper Club in Amsterdam! It is
www.supperclub.nl to make your reservation, which is a must as you can't usually get in on the night without a reservation. Or visit the Anne Frank museum in Amsterdam, a very sad experience, but a must. The Supperclub is so 7 years ago, don't go there.....too expensive for crap food & service! The place used to be a hangout for hipsters and cool people, now only tourists go there, drunk & stoned!

SCNDLS said: Erykah Badu is going to be in Amsterdam at Paradiso on the day I leave. I'm planning to change my flight so I can see her but I'm curious: Is Erykah well known in Holland? Does she have a big following there? Anyone? Anyone? She's so-so big here.....I'm not going, I don't agree with her having the audacity to ask 45 euros for a ticket.....her latest album kinda bombed here, despite some good reviews! Paradiso is a very cool venue though, should be fun!

SCNDLS said: Serious said: You should be prepared that dutch people are usually very tall and thus it is more difficult than in other countries to see a lot at concerts
I'm aware of you're well-documented aversion to tall people. Have you been to the NSJ festival? Isn't it all indoor? It's all indoor. I went a couple of times when it was still in The Hague, which was fun.....but honestly, I can not stand Dutch jazz-fans, the alwas wear red trousers and hussle their hands spastically to the rhythm of the jazzmusic... Oh and if you wanna know about dutch mentality, you can read Abiermans posts. They give you more insight into the dutch mind then a thousand books can give you!
Don't forget your red trousers when going to NSJ! I'll work on my spasms...

Sander said: abierman said: No NSJ for you this year? Bootsy's James Brown revue can't persuade you? that re-hash would be as torturous as a maceo Parker gig.....I've seen Bootsy twice, George Clinton 4 times.....my credo is: if you've seen them once, you've seen them all! Always the same names and some no-names.....boring! And I really can't stand Dutch jazz-snobs in red trousers!
