So... I Started Jogging Again This Morning! For the first time since I split with my wife, I started Fast Walk/Jogging again today! I was up at 5am, jogging by 6am, and home by 7am. I did 2 miles in 40 minutes today... not bad for not doing it in awhile.
At my peak I was doing 6 miles in 40 minutes, three times a week! Now, I need to work my way back to that. I was listening to Mariah Carey while jogging - the best song that came on and actually inspired me was "Make It Happen". Very cool. It actually put a little "kick" in my step! I feel good right now, with a small sense of accomplishment! The hardest part was getting up and getting out the door... I'ma keep it going! Hey - suggest some good "jogging" songs! |

I started jogging again seriously about a month ago. I find that the music you listen to really depends on the mood you're in. I always try to pick vibrant dance music, but not songs that are too emotionally involved as they can be distracting.
I avoid most dark or angry songs, and I've also found the Prince songs are horrible for jogging. Not that his songs are bad--it's just his music, the good stuff anyways, demands that you pay attention to the song too much. I also like a very eclectic mix of songs. It's not unusually the hear Punk, Rock, Hip Hop, Dance, and even country in my mix--so long as the songs have a good vibe to them. Hell the other day, I was running to Jimi Hendrix's rendition of "Along the Watchtower" Lawd, I love the guitar work on the live version --made me want to run harder and faster for sure.

That's actually not a bad observation... so, is this a thread about getting one's ass out of the house and start jogging, or a thread about music to listen to while jogging? |

I agree, the music should be somewhat mindless, something you can zone out to, but has good energy. During my jogging heyday I was a serious stoner, and the Grateful Dead was great for jogging. The music kept on and on, and created a positive mood. Bonus: when the psychedelics stored in my fat cells were re-activated by the run, I had some trippy jams to groove out to while I stripped naked and ran into the middle of a crowded intersection in a state of euphoria! As for music it's better for me to let my mood dictate it. Sometimes I want really driving stuff, other times I want something smoothed out & reflective. Just have different playlists for different moods & pick your playlist when you start. Grab everything fast & tolerable from your collection & call it "workout", you can always skip. I have Workout, Better Workout (more selective) & Best Workout (absolute faves only) - I usually am listening to one of those...

Going for a run with nothing but your ipod for company is one of the best things you can do. It cleanses both body and mind. I run late at night (10.30 11pm'ish). I prefer darker, brooding music more than upbeat stuff. last night i was listening to some Marvin gayes 'time to get it together' and a piece cinematic music called reqeium for a dream.. amongst others.
to get your health level right up there i recomend skipping. 10 mins of skipping equates to 30mins jogging. Mix it up. Good luck with getting back into your training. It is a great feeling when the bug hits you.

***WARNING*** this music is for HARDCORE WORKOUTS ONLY Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I like it actually, yeah, I almost never jog w/music. I don't like to be disconnected unless I'm on the train. If I worked out at the gym I'd definitely use music, too. [Edited 5/23/08 15:41pm] My Legacy
