My 20 year Class Reunion.......the Ballad of Jaimestarr................

I don't know if I should go. I feel so disconnected with these people. I haven't seen most of them in 20 years. I was fairly popular and had lots of friends in high. I just don't feel the need to reconnect. I think it may be different if I still lived in my hometown. I'm probably 1200 miles and 20 years apart from most of these people. What do I have in common with these people. I also don't care about how much money people make. I think I have done very well since High school, but I never felt the need to throw that any anybody's face. From what i've heard about most reunions, they always seem like a bragfest. I have a new life and I don't know if I want to go back to 1988.

Back in 1988 it wasn't easy for a black kid in a mostly all white school. I was one black kid amongst 20 other black kids in our school of 1500 students. I remember how difficult it was dating in high school. A lot of girls like me but they would only hook up on the DL. I got tired of running around in secrecy. A lot of girls were worried because a lot of their parents didn't want their daughters dating a black dude. It seems silly now, but it was a big deal in 1988. now a days it's nothing to see a mixed couple. For the record I dated black girls too. I just wanted the freedom to date whom I chose to.

Another thing is everytime I run into somebody from high school when I go home, The first thing they ask is how many kids do I have. I don't mind the question, it seems like a pretty fair question to ask. It's their response when I say, No I dont' have any kids. They look at me like I'm a freakin Alien!

I'm one of those people that like Kids, but I don't want any of my own. I don't need the headaches right now in my life. I think it is ok for people to get married and not want kids. It's a crazy world to be raising kids in anyway.

Has anybody actually gone to a reunion and had a good time? Tell me your story. Did anybody else have a similar high school experience?

Don't go dude. There'a reason you haven't seen these people in 20 years.

my 20 year is coming up in 2 years, I think I'm gonna blow it off. I had a ton of fun then, but the passage of time sure changes things.

I think I'm gonna take Luv4u's advise. I've decided to go to my reunion! I figure it will be my first, and last big class reunion. I hear that nobody goes to the other reunions after the 20 year union. I'm sure after 20 years it probably starts to get depressing.

I guess at first I was hesitant to going. I will have to make a grand appearance, and I will just have to brush the haters off. Looking back at high school wasn't all that bad. There are some friends that I would really like to see.

I will let you all know how it went. I'm definitely gonna take some pics.

I've been to every one of my class reunions - and I have another coming up this summer. (No, I'm not telling how many years.)

Anyway...you have to do it right. First, go with absolutely no expectations. It's one night. The fate of the free world does not hang in the balance.

Is the reunion on a Saturday night? If so...are they having a Friday night "warm-up" event? Go to that. Usually those events end up being more fun because there are more classmates and fewer spouses in attendance - so people can just kind of cut loose and hang out.

Honestly, most people have pretty much "gotten over" their high school personae by the time you get 20 years out. People will probably be a lot friendlier than you remember.

Have fun! biggrin
