All my grand parents have passed away except my grandmother on my mom's side of the family.

She's a little 'ole lady in a remot-ish Thai village, who probably has no concept of Prince.

Dare I say it, if she saw the Darlin Nikki performance from the movie, Purple Rain, her tits would fall off.

All of my grandparents have passed. I doubt they ever listened to Prince.

My dad probably would though if I sent him some bluesy rock stuff.

He is stoked about seeing ZZ Top with my brother this weekend.
He is diverse in his music. He loves R&B and the Blues.

My mom is not a fan even though she bought me Controversy for Christmas when I was 12 yrs old. This is all her fault!

My mom bought me Dirty Mind when I was 15. 24 years later I still haven't played it for her.

this reminds me about when I was at my little cousins house about 10 years ago, and she is locked in her room, but through the walls I hear "head" and I am like what the hell is she listening to? she is only 13 years old? I knock on the door and ask her where she got that song from, and she says a guy in her class gave it to her to listen to! omfg

Aw hells no. If that was my daughter, I would have gotten the name of that boy, called his parents and asked them to please stop their son from giving my daughter obscene music to bring into our house.

Then I would have put on my headphones and listened to more 2 Live Crew. music

lol

My grandmama's favorite song was "Raspberry Beret" according to my mom.

I don't think any of the others liked Prince. My grandmother on my mom's side once said that Prince was a perverted purple monster.

When they still lived my Spanish grandparents knew him because of me, they even liked him.
He had been to Barcelona several times and he stayed very close to where they lived.
They were always teasing me "que enano guapo" (my grandfather was smaller than him!) and if they saw him on tv she said "eso "Priens" tio es un guaro (spelling? Meaning dirty guy) pero su musica es guay".
My grandmother must have been around 70 years when she took a girlfriend to town to buy and send me Prince postcards. She did send me pretty ones but she also send me one of Terence Trent D'arby thinking it was him lol
But I was so moved thinking that two oldies went into a cardshop to look for Prince just for me touched

My grandmother didn't know who Prince was at first. I was riding in her station wagon with her and listening to the radio (I was controlling the stations). "Uptown" was playing and then Rod Stewart's "Passion" came on afterwards. When she heard "Passion", she said...."See, that's the kind of voice I like, it's not too loud. I don't like a voice like that lady had in the song before this one".

A year later, I was listening to "Do Me, Baby" in my room and was playing it loud, especially during the screams because the screams are my favorite part. My grandmother banged on the wall and shouted...."Andy, turn that shit down! It sounds like somebody is choking that bitch!".

When "Purple Rain" came out and Prince's name was everywhere, she knew who he was by then because of all the hell I raised to go to the movie and also because I had bugged her every year to buy me his new album as soon as it came out. Prince was in all the magazines that year and I had a collection of them. I had even cut out articles and put them in a scrap book. She saw me cutting out articles and said sarcasticly....."Why don't you just bow down and pray to your idol". That remark pissed me off. lol

She sure was. When she would be watching a soap opera (her "stories" as she called them) and the phone would ring (on the TV), she would pick her phone up thinking it was her's. Same thing the doorbell.

That gave me an idea. I really had some fun with her with The Gap Band's music. I would take my tape player in the car with me and play the motorcyle in the front of "Burn Rubber". She would look and say...."Good lord, these damn young drivers are crazy! Did you hear that fool screeching his tires?". Also, I would be in my room playing "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" (the 12 Inch version with the sirens). When I came out of my room, she had on the TV and the windows open. She said...."Andy, I'm trying to find something on TV about the weather. Did you hear those tornado sirens?" lol

they one granddad I knew dies in the year 1999 came out. I never asked my grandmoms.....they're dead now too.
My dad is funny....he's a jazz-nut and hates about everything that has to do with popular music. Funny enough he considers Prince to be genius. That doesn't mean he likes his songs & hits, but I guess I have forced him to listen to P so much back in the day when I was still living with my parents, that he must have recognized and acknowledged his talent. He's crazy about the Aladin Vegas Show DVD, even the funkjams on there.

My mom had no idea the contents of the album when she bought it. My cousin and I heard the song Controversy on the radio and had to have the album.
I am sure my mom regrets to this day that she bought me that album.

Back when I was 12 ans singing Jack U Off, I had no idea what I was singing about.
