Well, any clever thief wouldn't steal an American car - it'd probably break down within 500 yards. I've got a Civic hybrid - best of both worlds. it won't break down and who is going to steal a hybrid? Eco-criminals?? [Edited 5/27/08 15:22pm]

Hondas and Toyotas always top the list for most stolen vehicles because they're stripped for the parts.

In Canada, the Honda Civic consistently tops the list as the single most stolen vehicle.
Hondas in general are good theft items because of their high resale value. Also, Civics are top notch for their class, but still cheap enough that drivers may not guard them as closely as say, a BMW. Lastly, being the most stolen vehicle makes sense, because I believe Civics are also the best selling, or close to best selling car in Canada as well. "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. I actually blame Honda for this to some extent. My girlfriend pointed out how her key opened the door to her friend's Civic. I didn't believe her until I tried it. Sure enough! And not only that, her friend's Civic key opened her boyfriend's Acura!
So not only are Honda's extremely popular, but if you have a key, chances are it will open another Honda. Even if you don't know how to hotwire a car, you can steal from it pretty easily! My Legacy

I've had a Honda Civic for ten years and no one's bothered it. Of course, this thread and my response to it have probably just jinxed me. Crap, and I love this car, too. Murica: at least it's not Sudan.

My girlfriend said they were being considerate by breaking the small window. I said (politely) there was nothing considerate about it, it had to have benefited them in some way. My Legacy

Actually, when I worked in insurance in auto claims the cars that were stolen the most were early 90s model domestic cars - like Dodge Shadows. Most people steal cars not to keep but to just use then dump.

I have had 3 Hondas. I've only had 2 of them get broken into not taken. The Honda is at the top of the list for stolen cars. I consistantly saw older cars being stolen and always being recovered a day or so later - usually trashed.

I have had a Honda Civic for 6 years now and I love it. I woke up to my alarm going off one morning but nothing was stolen. A friend of mine went to move "my" car after the bar closed and he called and asked why I had a Puerto Rican flag on the dashboard....he was in someone elses!! So yes, the key does open many civics but I don't think it'll start them.
Just put an alarm in....I also have lojack. Don't know if it's activated but there's a sticker on the window that says I have it

Are Hondas popular where you are? I remember I went to Detroit, and there weren't as many (for obvious reasons!) My Legacy
