The movie "Car Wash"----why is my VHS copy missing scenes??!! Do you guys remember the 1976 comedy "Car Wash"? It's one of my all-time favorite movies.To those of you who have never seen it,it's a lively comedy that takes place at an L.A. car wash and it features Richard Pryor making a memorable cameo.The soundtrack album became a huge success,spawning hit singles like the title track and "I Wanna Get Next To You" by Rose Royce.
Oddly enough,my VHS copy (which I bought in 1995) is missing several scenes! ALL of the scenes with then-unknown Danny Devito have been deleted.In the original movie,he plays a cook that works in the hamburger joint across the street from the Car Wash.He was feuding with his girlfriend,who also worked at the same place. Also, remember the scene where Marsha's "date" comes back to pick her up,and she's disappointed because he brings some nerdy lookin' guy to her REAL date for the evening? This scene is nowhere to be found on my copy!! To those of you have this movie (on video or DVD) are these scenes missing from your copies as well? | |

I remember this movie. It was 1 of my favs when I was a kid, I gotta pick it up on DVD!
But hey... have u seen the movie The Wash w/ Dre, Snoop & Eminem? It's a take on Car Wash. I gotta get that 1 also, it's pretty funny. | |

Yet they kept in all the Danny Devito nude scenes...the fuckers... LOL... You know what I was thinking? Perhaps after Danny Devito became a big star in the 80s,maybe he PAID them to remove these scenes from the movie? You know how actors are usually embarrassed by their early performances? (one of Sylvester Stallone's early films was a porno...Madonna's first film in 1979 was the aptly titled "A Certain Sacrifice").Is it possible for a famous actor to "buy the footage" from an early film?? But that STILL doesn't explain why the scene with Marsha's nerdy "date" was deleted from all VHS/DVD copies.Unless,of course,that guy is now somebody who is really famous now...lol... | |
