After this bloody awful fourth series, good riddance.

Catherine Tate is shit in it! Bad acting, bad lines and enough of the slapstick already!

And where's the depth this time around?

My favourite of this series has been the Sontaran double-bill.

Out of interest, do you enjoy Catherine Tate's comedy show generally?

The reason I ask is that so far, the only people I know who like her in Dr Who have been the people who enjoy her comedy as well.

To be fair, it's not her fault that she's not working so good, it's the writers'. Even if she wanted to play a completely different character from those who populate her comedy shows, the vibe seems to be that the writers have written her parts with constant CT humour in mind whether she likes it or not.

Her awful 'So is he the murderer, then?' lines in the last episode were horrible, as was that scene when the Dr was choking and she made the 'hilarious' Harvey Wallbanger line.

Martha's appearance in this series really showed up just what a wooden, embarrassing and completely shallow character Donna is.
Russell T. was asking fans to at least give her a go before we commented on her appearance in the show. Well, we have and a lot of us are shaking our heads, wondering what the hell he was thinking of, letting her in the show (I guess he's a fan).
It's like me becoming producer of Dr Who and putting a Prince soundtrack to every episode. P fans would love it, but I can't see the majority of viewers lapping it up.

But she's not really the biggest problem with series 4. It's been the shallowest, played-for-laughs series so far. Shallow stories with no depth, horribly soppy endings (wouldn't it have been better if the Dr hadn't returned to Pompeii to save that one family - just to show what a horrible weight he has on his shoulders, constantly?) And that now horribly clichéd idea of the Dr and his companion influencing historical writers.

When the series was first revived in 2005, it really went a lot deeper than merely a Time Lord having adventures, and really explored the morals, mistakes and crucial judgments such a character has to take in order to carry on doing what he's doing. And that continued, with Series 3 possibly being the finest season of 21st Century Who (not without the odd bad episode, though).
Series 4 has come across as a load of bored producers, actors and writers just making-do until someone new comes along who can breathe some more life into the programme once more.

The last few episodes will have to be bloody good to save this series.

I'm glad you said that you didn't like the Catherine Tate show because you're the first person who I've spoken to who hasn't loved her simply because you're in love with her show.

That said, her acting in Dr Who is awful - it really is. She seems happy giving embarrassing OTT 'comedy' lines with every opening of her mouth, and hasn't shown an ounce of genuine, believable emotion and/or seriousness throughout her time on the show.
The perfect illustration of how shite she has been came with the Ood episode (which was okay, otherwise). That 'I wanna go home' sequence after she'd only heard their song for three seconds, showed up just how badly written her scripts are and how eye-rollingly average her acting has been.

She's been playing her 'bovvered' character throughout. And it's a shame. I really do like to think that she didn't want that to happen, but accepted that's how they decided the character Donna Noble should be.
However, that said, she was obviously happy to play those lines so she's obviously happy to whore herself to the programme and play up to whatever the producers wanted her to be.

Can't wait to see the back end of her and the crap storylines of this current series.

And I didn't say that the Sontaran double was flawless, or indeed excellent, but it was my favourite of Series 4 so far. Best of the worst bunch of episodes to date, if you will.
